I started it up in Dosbox and it seemed okay, but every time I kill an enemy on the first level it makes Dosbox glitch out and freeze. Anyone know how to get around this ?

That's a sound emulation bug in DOSBox 0.74. The only two ways are to switch off the sound card for sound effects, or use an older DOSBox version.

If the game has some kind of configuration option, you can disable sound there; otherwise, there should be an option in dosbox.conf (which in turn should be accessible from a Start menu shortcut created when DOSBox was installed). Alternatively, if it is an emulation bug (I guess I missed that news), it might be fixed in one of the SVN builds. Try www.dosbox.com/wiki/SVN_Builds .

DosBox is an emulator, is doesn't use your computer's hardware. Well, it does in a way, but here you just have to disable the emulated one in DosBox's configuration.

Thing about that is.....I don't know if you can turn off the music. I know you can get into what I assume is a sound test screen, but it shuts off the music on the title when I exit it so.....have no idea. Thanks for the advice everyone, gonna try tommorow when I can, hopefully, try playing it through undisturbed.

I've been looking over it, but not exactly sure what to do. Do you personaly recommend turning off the sound card, physicaly, or just in the dosbox config ?

Turning off your actual sound card will do nothing, as DOSbox doesn't care. Looking back at vanslug, you can run it without sound effects with the command line "meca a n". Its better to just use DOSBox 0.73, though, since then you can play with sound effects.
Note that the game is either inherently broken or broken by soulmate2x's shitty crack, anyway.

Considering what I read about it here, the former is actualy highly likely.
