You've found the regulations thread! We run a friendly ship, but there's a couple of rules that need to be followed so that everyone can have a good time.
We'll get the big four out of the way first. Doing any of these will result in an immediate permanent ban from the forum:
- Posting pornographic content. Pictures, trashy literature, animation, none of this is allowed.
Would you feel ashamed if someone important to you outside of the internet saw what you're thinking of posting? Then don't post it.
- Posting the address or other contact information of another member of the forum without their consent.
- Starting a thread about your current chemical composition. No one cares if you are drunk or high.
- Posting links to any form of malicious code. Phishing sites, spam threads, none of this will ever be tolerated.
Next we have the meat of the forum rules. We will warn you if you've violated them. If we find ourselves having to correct you over and over again you will be temporarily banned. The first ban is for a week. The second ban is for two weeks. The third is a permaban.
- If you have any questions about any action a moderator has taken or about any of these rules, please feel free to contact us via a private message.

- Never make a thread or post specifically to dispute a moderator's actions. We are more than happy to communicate with you through private messages regarding any and all issues you may have with any aspect of the forum.
- Do not make a post or thread to harass a specific member of the forum. Do not complain about other forum members. It creates a hostile atmosphere.
- Do not troll. Trolling consists of making passive aggressive posts to intentionally get a rise out of other members. Conversely, if you see someone doing this, do not feed the trolls. If you can't ignore it, then report it to a moderator with a private message (or even through another messaging service we have listed).
- Do not flame members of the board. This board is here so we can talk about games we love and hate, not whether or not a person should be allowed to love and hate them and how this reflects on their character. Flaming consists of attacking the person rather than the topic. There is never a need to do this.
- Do not intentionally sabotage a thread because you dislike the topic. If you don't want to have a particular discussion, then just don't have it. Don't hinder others who think differently.
- If a poster (or posters) are being antagonistic to each other, then they will either be warned publically or privately to cut it out. If the argument continues, they will be banned. However, there are instances where you will be banned without warning. These should all be common sense: don't use religious/homophobic/racial slurs, don't threaten physical violence, and so forth.
- Please be mindful of what's considered "antagonistic". We want to foster discussions and debates, but please refrain from using condescending language. In addition to undermining whatever point you may have, it generally also causes other posters to dislike you, and that's ultimately what causes fights to break out. If a mod believes your attitude is too hostile, you will be warned either publically or privately.
- If a thread has gotten too out of hand and devolved into antagonistic fighting, then it will be locked. If a topic is locked, it has been locked for a reason, please don't growse about it another thread. This will be another cause for a banning. If someone wants to "refresh" a thread by starting it from scratch focusing on the original topic, that's fine.
- While we allow discussion of emulators and even the posting of ROM files of some classic games, do not link to or post sites that deal in rampant modern software piracy. Also, no current PC software nor any kind of warez, and no doujin full game downloads. Demos are obviously fine. MP3s are okay to post but must be limited to game soundtracks. If you're ever unsure as to whether or not a site is appropriate for the board, ask first.
Finally, here are some general guidelines. These aren't rules so much as helpful pointers:
- If you want to promote any kind of work you've contributed to, please be aware that the community isn't thrilled about people who only want to use the forum as an advertisement platform and have no interest in taking part in discussions otherwise. Please do not create a thread for your product and do not hijack threads about other topics. We have a separate thread for self promotion of various projects on the off-topic board. Only if your project is a video game and you have at the very least something playable to present, you may also use the Official Indie and Free Games Thread instead. If you want to create a thread just for your announcement, you need to be a well-known member of the community and have something relevant and noteworthy to show. All other forms of self promotion will be moved immediately. If you ever find yourself unsure where you should post about your project, ask a moderator first.
- Before you start a thread, ask yourself if you actually have anything to say. This board is a discussion platform, not a news dump. If you're going to post a link, explain what you want to discuss about it and your stance on the matter. New topics that are just a link (and maybe an insubstantial short sentence) will be closed on sight.
- Stay on topic. If you find yourself composing a post that ends up having nothing to do with the thread's topic, consider starting a new thread instead of scrapping it.
- You are not your post count. Your opinion on obscure software programmed twenty years ago is not written in stone. If you just can't think of a polite way to disagree with someone, or if someone preferring one game over another mortally offends you rather than invoking discussion, consider not posting.
- Have some security in your beliefs. If you just posted a dissertation on how you love a given game, and someone makes an equally coherent and well-rounded post about how they hate it, this is not flaming, trolling, or an insult to you as a person. Either discuss video games or agree to disagree. Otherwise take it to private messages.
- Don't be a jerk to people who just registered. It is guaranteed that there will be people new to the board who will make a thread introducing themselves in the game music forum and other such errors. Moderators will keep them informed.
- Discussions involving highly controversial topics like religion, politics, sexuality, feminism, etc. have an unfortunate tendency to cause problems on internet forums. Such discussions are not expressly forbidden, but please be aware that they will be watched very closely by forum staff. Please take care that your arguments include appropriate links to supporting evidence, and refrain from personal attacks or sarcasm which can tend to violently derail civil discussion.
-Any poster who uses the term "SJW" unironically is getting their avatar permanently changed to a picture of Anita Sarkeesian.
-Punching Nazis is awesome.
