Which number is that from? I was gonna ask if they had a walkthrough for Cosmo Saint Leaza, but according to that list, that game would have been too new.

Dang, I bet that's in that ominous volume 4 no one ever seems to find.

I do like how they consider The Legend of Zelda an RPG. If only they could time travel 25 years into the future and tell that to the internet today. You should be more concerned about trying to convince Nintendo of that. www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/vc/vc_zel_fc/index.htmlPersonally, the whole "RPG" genre is a misnomer. The stories are completely linear and there's no actual role-playing involved. The only real difference between Zelda and Dragon Warrior is the battle and stats systems.

That's because RPGs are only for darkness loving basement dwellers, according to Yamauchi or whatever Nintendo exec said that a few years ago. They can't go around giving that title to one of their most popular properties!
I'm going to translate a bit of this and post them on the blog soon. I really wish there were release dates on these.

I don't think Yamauchi seriously dislikes RPGs. It seemed more like he was still sour over the fact that Square stopped supporting his company in order to develop for the PlayStation. I mean, I would be bitter too if one of my company's long-time supporters suddenly jumps ship, publicly criticizes my company and deprives my hardware of million of sales by developing their flagship title on a competitor's platform. Besides, Nintendo doesn't mind labeling the Fire Emblem series a "Simulation RPG" (a genre label they themselves coined). www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/vc/vc_fea/index.html

True, but there's still not much role-playing involved and when a WRPG has multiple endings, it usually consist of choosing between a cartoonishly "good" or "evil" path.

Those are seriously awesome - thank you! Haha, I've played Courageous Perseus on the PC88. Kept meaning to post something about it, somewhere. It's weirdly interesting. And hell yes, they have Brain Breaker in that list. Things like this are great for discovering weird ad obscure curios. What's Jameston Warrior like? Or Aramo? Or Marchen Veil? This reminds me, at some point I must post about the doujin magazine scans I got (sent Derboo some links). Admittedly 90% of them are pornography, but there still a few interesting non-porn games. Including what seems to be a hack/homage to Sorcerian, called Sorceriman, where you control one giant dude instead of a party. Also quite a few other neat looking action adventures.

Could you list the title of these books? I'd like to get copies of them for myself. Thanks!

I picked up all of these volumes in Akihabara for like 1000 yen each. There were quite a number of copies. They were in...either Messe Sanoh or Media Land, the one where the first floor has the Cave displays, and the second floor is mostly Western PC stuff. This was back in the summer though, so who knows if they still have any left in stock.

Maybe it's time to take a trip then! It's been years since I have been to Tokyo not on business.
