From the article:
So far there is no word on an actual sequel to Deadly Premonition. What's happening is a western PS3 release of an enhanced version with new content.

Swery already plans on making a sequel, along with an enhanced remake of the first game. I hope this remake comes to the 360 and PC as well, but even if it's PS3-only I'll buy it to show my support. Deadly Premonition is awesome <3 I knew that this director's cut would be how Access Games gets to make a PS3 version outside Japan, since Sony in America has a policy of not allowing late ports to their system unless they have significant gameplay additions. I'm glad PS3-only players will finally have the chance to try Deadly Premonition without importing

I just posted in the article thread only to discover this has its own thread. Excellent work, gentlemen. I knew that this director's cut would be how Access Games gets to make a PS3 version outside Japan, since Sony in America has a policy of not allowing late ports to their system unless they have significant gameplay additions. I believe you when you say this (they have a history of being idiots, like not wanting to release SOTN, and poorly supporting the Yaroze), but have you got a hard source for this?

Currently plaything through this now and whilst I can say I really like the characters and atmosphere the combat does really stink (even with the infinite weapons!) so I hope they can improve that and maybe let the cars feel less like travelling boxes

I'm having trouble finding a source, but I've read it before on multiple occasions. It would explain why certain games that came out for other platforms all received significantly updated PS3 versions later on, such as Tales of Vesperia/Graces, Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and some others I can't recall off the top of my head.

If not, I don't think I could suffer through it. But I'm not sure if they'd make any major overhauls to it. There are some people who find the combat just as brilliantly terrible as the rest of the game.

I'm curious how much a PS3 'remake' is necessary considering it was originally a PS3 game... but still, I'm ecstatic I'll finally get to play it.

This is definitely something I plan on picking up at some point; it will fit nicely with all those other PS3 games I've bought and still haven't played...
