Sorry Tom. danganronpa.wordpress.com/Free demo! Go enjoy! Best news. This game is seriously one of a kind. danganronpa.wordpress.com/The fan translators behind this released a free demo. Script is 100% done supposedly, just waiting on graphics and script editing. Screens: Your PSP will need CFW to run the demo, of course.

This looks like the most anime thing ever to uguu~ but people keep pissing themselves over it so I guess I'm interested. Sell me on why I should waste afternoons on this.

It's a visual novel high school murder mystery courtroom drama.

Thanks for the update on this cj iwakura, it was unexpected.
I will elaborate a bit more on the demo. The demo has a different story from the main game and playing through it gives players a bonus when they start the retail version.
Also, it is worth noting, the translators are attempting to translate both PSP games.
Awesome news since this game seems to mix the ideas of Battle Royale, Clue, and the Ace Attorney series into one strange and wonderful package.

Need to be sold on it? Basically imagine if Hunger Games was an anime minus the kinda hamfisted morals about uncritical consumption of entertainment, and had more thorough character development (the film was all right, but it really had a lot of issues). Lock a bunch of high school prodigies into a big school where the only way out is for them to kill each other, but without being detected/convicted.
Gameplay wise, it's Phoenix Wright with DDR influences.
The translation linked in the OP is inferior to the one in the LP on the something awful forums though -- and the people who were doing that LP are working to get their own patch out. No idea on an ETA for that one, though.

As much as I like the idea of another mystery game, I'm...honestly really not sold on this. Maybe I'd warm up to it if I knew more, but I can't even go try the demo, as my PSP is all but dead at the moment due to some issues with the battery not staying seated and the charger being loose.

In other words, don't imagine Hunger Games -- imagine Battle Royale. Also, if you're not sold on this game already, then it's probably not for you. In addition to the Phoenix Wright, Clue and Battle Royale parallels, I'd also add Persona 3 and 4, since the game has a certain "urban Japanese youth" style to it, both visually and musically, that's VERY reminiscent of those two games. If you're still not convinced... then yeah, you won't be. -Tom

Might wanna go with the german Rudenberg instead, unless having a character named Hairy-mountain is some sort of joke These (double) fan translation news have gotten me very excited though.

Gameplay wise, it's Phoenix Wright with DDR influences I was pretty much sold on it up until that point. I can't stand rhythm-based games and the Phoenix Wright series is among my least favorite modern adventure games, though I can give just about anything else its fair shake

Gameplay wise, it's Phoenix Wright with DDR influences I was pretty much sold on it up until that point. I can't stand rhythm-based games and the Phoenix Wright series is among my least favorite modern adventure games, though I can give just about anything else its fair shake The DDR comparison isn't particularly apt, since the only real parallel is the fact that there are some gameplay elements based on timing (not quite quick-time events, but not really rhythm game events either -- it's more like picking and choosing the right moment to interject in an argument). The Phoenix Wright comparison is spot-on, though, since half the game consists of long, drawn-out trials to determine who the murderer is this time around. So if you're really not fond of Phoenix Wright, then yeah... again, game's probably not for you. -Tom

Well, I can't say I've actually played the game myself but the machine-gun talk battle segments look very much like a rhythm game to me. Don't think I can post a video of the bit without MASSIVE SPOILERS though.
Ah well, in the meantime, have this.

Boy was that a wild demo. So many kinds of gameplay. I can see it being a lot of fun.
Love the atmosphere and such. Can't wait for the finished product.

Does the demo require CFW to run as well? I know the DRM for demos is often much more lax (or nonexistent), so it seems like there might be a chance the demo would run on an OFW PSP... which it would need to in order for me to play it, 'cause no way in hell am I putting CFW on my PSP. -Tom
