Kind of surprising to see that you're into a franchise like this. It's certainly a far cry from Gabriel Knight. I finally got the 360 version a few days ago, though, and look forward to running through it with my wife.

I'm not into it inasmuch as I'm like YEAH WOOO ONEECHANBARAAAAA but it's a bit better than its reputation might infer. The level designs are terrible but the core action is surprisingly decent.
They really got wrecked in the reviews when released over here - something like 57% and 43% for the Wii and Xbox versions. They really aren't anything that bad, I just think the reviewers were too embarrassed to admit to liking it. (Also: lousy graphics on the 360's version.)

The Wii version wasn't exactly a looker. I picked it up because it seemed like a quirky type of game that just might be good.
It's mediocre at best. Though it does have the guilty pleasure repetitive zombie killing for it.
The third character is awesome. Misery, that's her.
Also, the waggle controls suck. Having to make that motion for every single slash is more tedious than fun.
They should've taken some notes from NMH's control scheme.

This seems like a series I'd enjoy (besides obvious reasons) because of the cheese/silly factor, but I own not a single system that could play any of them. I am sad.

Another game I'll probably buy used next year (the Xbox game that is). I think the flaws games like this have (bad level design, monotone gameplay) grow exponentially smaller as soon as one views them as the 3D equivalent to the classic Beat 'em up.
The system in the headline for the Wii version is wrong (it says Xbox360).
Oh, and wouldn't it make more sense to put the bit about the mobile game before the movies, instead of in between the text about the movies and screenshots from those?
EDIT: On the images and headlines of the first page, it constantly says "Zombine" instead of Zombie.

I picked up Vol 61 because the trailer looked kind of neat. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't also gotten vol 31: Earth Defense Force already. Took a chance on vol 90, but it did absolutely nothing for me either. Never even bothered checking out those US releases, though I guess I should since I'd like to support D3 a bit more in the hopes that they'll team up with Sandlot to provide us with a steady stream of more EDF titles. Love the vibe of the Oneechanbara games, just can't stand the gameplay.

Typo: A slightly older biker chuck who wields both a sword and a shotgun. She first appears in the Onechanbara 2, but is available in all of the rest of the games too.

Myself and a friend just love the titles to these, but neither can play it. Aw well, maybe eventually. It looks fun either way, in that "I don't want to do any serious thinking" way.

I had always considered picking up the 360 version of this, I might just do that now.

Typos in the second page: They're all pretty stupid, especially in the end when Aya starts glowing red and flying all over the place, but they're all in good gun. |
It's known under different titles around the word, including Zombie Killer - Sharp as a Sword, Sexy as Hell in Germany, and Chanbara Beauty in the United Kingdom.

I liked reading about the other games in the series; I just picked up the 360 version, which is fun, but as you said very repetitive, and IMO the only real challenge comes from them going into DBC ("Dat Bitch Crazay") mode. If there's one disturbing thing it's the dress-up mode, which allows you to strip even Saki down to her underwear (who is like 14).
BTW, is the doctor's name in the movie "GET NAME" or is that a placeholder? That would rock if it were (reminds me of McDonalds expy "MAKE FAT" in the anime KITE).

I'd been thinking of picking these up, but couldn't find too much info on them.
Even if they aren't high-brow entertainment, I'm pleased to see HG101 continuing to cover all manner of obscure stuff.
I knew one of the reviewers who covered the 360 version, and he said the loading screen minigame was the best thing about it. Then again, this was for the same mag which slated Senko no Ronde, and I have little time for anyone who slates Senko no Ronde. So I guess my interest in this was more because they criticised SnR...

I had Oneechanbara and Madworld for a week long holiday so I played a lot of Oneechanbara Wii - that game is so close to being exceptional with its waggle mechanic (there is a method to the madness) but they totally mess up the responsiveness of the controller - you can get an item that makes the controls *easier* and the fact that this item makes the game 150% more playable is absurd. Although the *extra* costumes are a joke since they're basically just palette swaps - despite the gratuitous fan service this series isn't nearly as god as EDF.
