I've died twice there. What a pain.

Something I figured out (pasted from IRC): [18:35:39] <wildweasel> Ooh. Another battle tip - you might notice that if you're constantly backing away from your opponent, that your gauge charges slower... [18:35:57] <wildweasel> If you only push the control stick back halfway, your backsteps will be smaller but your gauge will charge at the same rate it would if you were standing still Since it apparently only happens when you're stepping backward, sidestepping tends to be one of the better options. It's like turn-based King's Field! Another game I might compare this to in some ways is Valkyria Chronicles. Now, in there you still have to focus on your movement and locations, but the only difference is when you're moving the enemies have free reign to snipe at you at any time (making the free-moving part play a bit like a tower defense game in some ways), whereas here they can only attack you when they're charged up as well.

This is my vote for best tip.

There exist special five-hit combos where, if you process a certain sequence of attacks, you'll add on a sixth super-powerful hit that just may give you the edge in a fight. I only know of two of them: -Five upper left or upper right hooks in a row gives you a charged punch. You can't alternate between the two, just make it five of one. -Left middle punch, right middle punch, left mid punch, right mid punch, left mid punch ends the combo with a rising uppercut. There may be more, but I'm not otherwise sure.

I've just cleared Area 7, so here are some tips for ya guys: - In Area 6, you will encounter a new enemy type that looks like a tall humanoid with vaguely rhino and beetle like features. These assholes love to disappear and reappear constantly and are really difficult to fight given they can perform combo moves just like you can, so your best odds for survival are either using a ring eraser or guns against them. However, you can defeat them without using items. The key is to observe what they do before the fight starts. Much like you, they have a hidden power gauge that needs to charge before they can attack you. While it charges, they tend to hang back, and it once drains after a combo, they will run away. Use this to your advantage! It also helps if you never stop moving during the fight, since they can miss their combos if you are running or moving.
- Area 7 has you go through Area 3 backwards. With this in mind, be careful when progressing through the level. It's possible to enter a point of no return if you cross the broken bridge without exploring the rest of the level first, so if you want to grind or look for items during the first half of Area 7, be sure to do so before crossing the bridge!
- Remember that spinning blade in Area 3? It returns in Area 7 twice. It is possible to defeat it, however! You simply have to hit it 10 or so times with your diffusor. It's easier to defeat it the first time you encounter it in Area 7 since you'll probably be standing on a platform above it, but you can defeat the second one if you're patient enough. It's probably just better to run away from it, though. :p

Alright, beat the game last night. The endgame was long, but thankfully the final bosses (yes, bosses) were not unreasonably cheap like the Dr. Bross fight. Maybe it was because I was using buffs, debuffs, and shots with wild abandon, but still. I loved how cheesy and dramatic the ending was, it was a perfect wrap up to the game. I would totally give a shit about voting and politics if we had a badass President like the one in Hybrid Heaven. Thumbs up indeed, Mr. President.

Ever notice how the President of the United States is more likely to be a complete badass in games that aren't made in America?

Good point. I was happy seeing a positive portrayal of the US President instead of a complete jackass or a mutache-twirling villain. Hell, it's nice seeing a positive portrayal of US-anything these days.

Messing around with resolution, the vertical size is 10% larger for a non-square pixel look.

Pretty much exactly as hilarious as it sounded on IRC. Excellent work as always, Kal!

Nice!
Also, I seriously want to see that D.D. Crew/Deus Ex mashup some of us suggested on the IRC drawn.

Do to unforeseen Acts of God, the podcast this month will be a little late. A rough cut podcast might appear later this evening, however. The final podcast will likely be released this weekend barring further technical issues.
In any case, this month's games will be up for vote shortly!

Yeah, sorry. Normally the delay is due to my laziness. But this time, thanks to Snarboo's help in the editing room, we were on track to have this one out on November 1.
Then this hurricane business, power outages, etc. I'm fine. Just got the power back on today, though. Living on three Cup-O-Noodles a day is not recommended to anyone.
