So... I pissed away all my ammo because I thought I would get more. Should I resart? I am hopeless at this game. Remember: use only the knife the small, respawning "animal" enemies (rats, bats, slimes, etc). Don't waste ammo on anything that isn't an actual monster. Monsters are the guys who ambush you in first-person mode in the house. In the warp zones, monsters are heralded with a flash of white light. Make sure you collect plenty of ammo before entering a warp zone, and don't forget that all the items in the house respawn whenever you beat a boss. Finally, try to fight the flying monsters on the top 1/3rd of the screen. It makes them much easier to hit.

Well, this game is weird. I don't hate it so far, but there's something vaguely off about it. A few observations:
1: Stick with your knife for as long as you can. It's not a great weapon, but I can think of worse methods of attack in video games prior (like Atlantis no Nazo). Save your ammo for creatures who deserve it more.
2: I didn't realize you could open cross-shaped windows. And enter them too!
3: Some doors cannot be entered, even after opening them. What.
4: The first boss is too easy. It barely moves and you only need to stab it about five times.
5: One of the monsters that randomly pops out at you in the first-person sequences looks a lot like McDonald's Birdie. I should credit Snarboo with this observation. lol
Nothing too major yet, but I have the first piece of the laser thingy. We'll see what the rest of this magical mystery tour brings, but I intend to take this game slowly.

Some further tips for you guys: - When you restore from a password, you will start exactly where you left off after defeating a boss, with all items and health intact. It's theoretically possible to get yourself into an unwinnable situation if you defeat a boss with almost no health left, so keep that in mind.
- You can turn 180 degrees during first person segments if you move the cursor past the top of the screen.

3: Some doors cannot be entered, even after opening them. What. Those are closets. They look a bit different than normal doors.

Alrighty, this game is already starting to cheese me off. Three questions: A: Anyone know how to reach that door at the very top right of the main mansion? The one that immediately stoops over you at the very beginning of the game? Its non-accessibility is driving me bonkers. B: Does anyone even know how to get past the opening room of the mansion and explore some of the doors to the left of the main room? I'm starting to wonder if walls can actually be broken down... C: The only warp zone that I can currently beat (the only one I've found so far on the second floor) has a stupid asshole for a boss, some floating cloud genie or whatever whom I can't hit with bullets. I can only hit him with grenades, but... does the game honestly expect me to waste my grenades just to kill this flying jerk, or is there a more efficient way?

I don't think I like this game. All of the enemies are super fast and I'm super slow. It's like I'm a turtle with a gun trying to fight off a horde of cheetahs.
Anyone willing to give away monster locations? I know there's a skeleton in the first room and something that spits fireballs in the second room's cupboard. I'm trying to get through this game with as little fighting as possible, but I keep dying because monsters jump out and get me.

The one that immediately stoops over you at the very beginning of the game? Its non-accessibility is driving me bonkers. Go up the stairs to the second floor of the house. Enter the room furthest to the right. Turn so that you're facing east and start using the HIT command until you hit the correct area of the wall and open a hole. GO through the hole. You are now in that room! Yes, of course walls can be broken! The game is filled with secret passages found by HIT-ing walls in the correct spot. One of my posts on page 3 of this thread goes into detail about how secret passages work. You have to use grenades. Hit him with three grenades while he's visible and you win. Anyone willing to give away monster locations? I know there's a skeleton in the first room and something that spits fireballs in the second room's cupboard. I'm trying to get through this game with as little fighting as possible, but I keep dying because monsters jump out and get me. I can't remember where all of the monsters can spawn, but whether they do spawn or not is completely random. You can open a window a dozen times and nothing will happen, then the next time a monster pops out. Also, sometimes monsters appear when opening a door to exit a room, so there's no way to completely avoid them. Also, why are you trying to play without fighting? Dr. Chaos isn't a survival game; you're intended to beat the crap out of everything that gets in your way. If you've never played the game before you're just making things unnecessarily difficult.

I honestly don't know what I'm doing in this game. Sorry. I'm not always the best with rationing stuff, and I don't like the wooden sword, so I end up using the guns and running out of bullets. I guess trying not to fight everything is not going to work. I thought I could avoid the monsters to keep myself from running out of bullets, so I'll just have to try to get better at using the wooden sword. Thanks for the help. Without it, I'd probably still be writing down monster locations and playing like it's a survival game. I'm completely lost at this game and appreciate help.

Well, I'm starting to make legitimate progress and I just got the diving helmet, but sadly, just about every other warp zone I come to now can't be cleared unless I get the stupid jump boots. Anyone have a hint on where I should look on those?
Also, a few more random tips:
A: Those obnoxious winged skeleton guys take two bullets to kill, and those giant dino-skeleton guys take four. Ration your shots carefully, and even if it's hard to hit the winged guys, NEVER engage them with the knife.
B: You can't open any of the doors in the main house if you come across a random "scare monster" in the 3D bits, so just grin and bear it if it happens, and immediately use either of your guns to dispatch them.
C: Passwords drop you off RIGHT where you are, with your appropriate items or health. There's also another benefit to passwords...
D: I forget if someone else already said this, but all items (ammo and health) reset in the 3D parts after you restore your progress with passwords! If you're willing to put in a bit of grinding, I feel this is the key to not totally plopping at this game.
So I've got three bosses down to now and the diving helmet, but I don't know where the bloody jump boots are. If someone can help me out there, many a thanks in advance. As an incidental question, are there more parts to the hub house than immediately viewable, or is it just that one scrolling screen that consists of the hub?

As an incidental question, are there more parts to the hub house than immediately viewable, or is it just that one scrolling screen that consists of the hub? There is more to the hub than the first two stories of the house! There is an attic and a basement as well, both of which are accessible by searching for secret passages on the north wall in rooms. The attic and basement are also split into east and west halves, each half accessible by a different secret passage. In other words, there are two passages into the basement on the first floor, and two passages into the attic on the second floor. As for where to find the jump boots: The warp zone containing the jump boots is found in the east side attic. You'll know it's the right one because it is the only warp zone entirely underwater. It is also the most difficult warp zone by far, so make sure you come prepared, ideally with a lot of SMG ammo for the boss!

Thanks, guys! I got to the first warp zone now. I think I'm getting better that this.

I need to actually start playing for real.
I've started doing a map, although I'm not sure how useful it'll be. Do the room layouts change?

The room layouts are static thankfully.

Alrighty, fellas, time to talk about the worst warp zone ever. It's in the upper-right attic and it's covered entirely in water. It's full of fish that juggle you around, and the boss is a large turtle which splits into five smaller turtles which zip around the screen like mach 10 ping-pong balls. The journey back is really terrible too! I recommend getting the life bottle from that floating ghost jerk you can only kill with the grenades before you tackle this terrible trek through the trepidate trench. Also, grind up on SMG ammunition to take on the turtle boss and hope you get lucky!
I can't give much else for general advice, but if you're having trouble scrounging up health and ammo, get the current password, reload the game, enter the password, and despite being in the exact same place, all resources will have filled up again.
Also, there's no shame in using bullets to take care of any of the surprise monsters that jump out and attempt to beat you up.
Also also, there are two warp zones on the first floor that are technically immediately available to you when you first start the game, but you can't make headway in them until you get the jump boots. Go figure. :/
