I have a keen interest in 32 bit 2D platformers. They were produced at an awkward time during gaming, when 3D graphics were becoming mainstream. Yet, there are certainly some quality titles to be played here.

I have 2 main purposes for this list:

1) Hopefully locate a couple more ultra-obscure ones to check out myself
2) Create a comprehensive list so that other people may use it and discover new platformers for themselves. I’ve used the help of many internet forum threads to find many of these games and compile this list, so I am hoping this list will also be a resource to the internet for years to come.

First, I'm starting with Playstation. Once we’ve got that more filled out, we can tackle Saturn and once that’s done, possibly some of the other 5th generation consoles as well.

In defining 2D platformer, I am referring to games with a 2D or 2.5D side scrolling perspective (It can have polygons as long as the gameplay is along a 2d axis). The game does not necessarily have to focus on platform jumping, but it must include jumping of some sort. Therefore, games like Metal Slug and Castlevania SOTN will count for purposes of this list.

The following is just a rough draft I've made over the past few days. I am sure there are some missing. If you want to contribute, that would be great!

I don't have Zoku Gussun Oyoyo, but if it's like all the others then it would fit.

Doesn't count since it's a beatemup.

Found a few others though ..

Mickey's Wild adventure, and
Pink Panther - Pinkadelic Pursuit.

These must go largely unknown because they are movie/character licensed and probably suck. But I will never know unless I try them!

Panzer Bandit fits this description just as much as Metal Slug.

Aha, I hadn't watched a gameplay video of this, only seen the screenshots. From the shots, it looks more like final fight, i.e. you can move along the Z axis as well. But I see now that you cannot. So I will add it to the list. Thanks dude

But there aren't *any* platforms at all in Panzer Bandit, so you're getting very loose in your definition (personally, I think you had it correct the first time: it's a beat 'em up and is not a platformer because, well, it is).

Also: you can move along the z-axis, but it is 'planed' a la Fatal Fury or Top Hunter, etc.

If you're going to start counting games like this as 'platformers', then maybe just making it a list of all 2-2.5D games would make more sense?

As for Zoku Gussun Oyoyo it's a 2D platformer if you consider Bubble Bobble and the like platformers.

No, I really don't want to make it a list of all 2/2.5D games .... We can vote to remove some of the games from the list later or whatever.

you might want to include magical hoppers, the japanese port of pandemoium. it got different character models and anime cutscenes so i'd say it's different enough to be its own listing. also, don't forget the ps1 release is umihara kawase shun, and it had a second release with some additional content included.

anyway, looks like you got most of them. but i can still pull my trump card: shake kids! yes, that's right, the only 2.5d platformer where you fight enemies with a bartender's drink mixer.

oh no! is kind of a debatable one; it's technically three dimensional movement, but you can only move side-to-side and jump, with forward movement fixed liek a rail shooter.

Just added magical hoppers in parenthesis next to pandemonium. Added Shake kids (looks cool!). Not sure about oh no. I'll have to play it first to see what I think ...

Also Yoyo's puzzle park appears to be the same thing as Gussun paradise
