Rumor: Strider 3/HD?

A rumor's been going around for the past several hours that Capcom may be planning to announce a Strider sequel (generally assumed to be Strider 3 or a Strider HD remake). This rumor supposedly got started with the latest Famitsu. Can anyone elaborate on exactly what (if anything) the magazine says? I fully realize that it's probably BS, but I figured it was worth asking.

If true, hopefully it'll be more like the NES game and less like the arcade games. Loved the NES title so much. Strider in the arcade was ok, but that second one kind of bit.

The first Strider is one of my absolute favorite games (although I like Osman even more). Strider 2 was pretty poor in my opinion, so a sequel to make up for it would be fantastic. I guess if it's a remake I'd prefer a Bionic Commando makeover, only because the alternative would probably end up being a tracing over the original graphics like SFII HD Turbo-- and that would just be hideous.

It pales in comparison to the first in every aspect. That's what was wrong with it. :P

Soooo much was recycled from the first Strider, and it often wasn't done as neatly or quite as elegantly as the first. That was it's biggest issue. Personally, I loved the strange atmosphere the first one had and Strider 2 had difficulty retaining that. The first featured cacophonous music, discomforting, awkward scenes and very bizarre (but fun!) pacing. The second felt more generic, although it's still a stylish game, I'll give it that.

The original's designer went on to do Osman and, unlike Strider 2, it improves upon the first. It heightens and exaggerates what made the first one so unique and lovable. It's far more bizarre, much darker, more violent, controls better, looks better and moves faster. Same basic format, and whenever it recycles aspects from the first it does it refreshingly (and sparingly).

I liked Strider 2 and I think it did a good job of following the original's format, but it's clear it never quite understood what in particular made it so awesome. When I said it's poor I meant to imply "compared to the first," but, y'know it's a tough game to beat (at least in my mind).

Personally, I think we'll see Boong-Ga Boong-Ga on the Wii before we see any kind of HD Strider, let alone Strider 3.

You mean Sengoku Basara 3. Devil Kings was just a badly "Americanized" version of the first game.

The only way Strider could be made better is if they make it into a Metroidvania. If any character deserves that, it's Strider.

If only life were like Persona 2...then we'd be able to make things true by spreading rumors about them! (Of course then we'd have to deal with fighting demons in the middle of school or work, and it'd be harder to shop for groceries if the shop in question decides to start selling weapons on the side...)

By a "Metroidvania Strider", you mean a side-scrolling action adventure game? They already made that game. Just play the NES version of Strider.

Shhh! Don't give them any ideas. Street Fighter II HD Remix was was already bad enough as it is.

Six of one, half dozen of the other to me. I only just heard of these for the first time yesterday, and this is the first mention I've seen of the real title. I don't even know what they're like.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. The existing Strider games are much too linear and have barely any semblance of story, which is something I would like to see expanded upon. The formula worked great for turning Castlevania into a much deeper, more rewarding game, and it didn't even take advantage of all the cool wall-climbing stuff that Strider can do. One of my favorite things to do in Strider is to climb to all the places that I couldn't normally go in a sidescroller. Strider gameplay in a Metroidvania-style layout with a game that I can't completely beat in an hour and a half could be nothing but awesome.

I thought it was awesome, but I'm under no illusions that a game like that should have come out in 1995, not 1999, when it might have made a case for the viability of 2.5 D platformers.

It was OK, and I liked it, but there was a lot more that could be done with it, especially when you look at Osman and see it's like somebody's imagination ran wild all over that game.
