I'd heard about this before (a really long time ago, mind you) but I never gave it a listen, because I wasn't entirely sure just what Acid Jazz was. Not only did I find out it's an incredibly groovy genre of music, but it also paired incredibly well.
Let's hear a little bit about that
"The Chrono Trigger Arranged Version: The Brink of Time is an album of acid jazz rearrangements of the music from Chrono Trigger, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and arranged and performed by Hiroshi Hata, Hidenobu Ootsuki, and Gizaemon de Furuta. The soundtrack spans one disc and 10 tracks, covering a duration of 52:47. It was published by NTT Publishing on June 25, 1995, and reprinted on October 1, 2004.[13]"
yes! Not only is it technically an "official" square-enix (or squaresoft) remix album, it was also composed mainly by the original artist (though, i don't know who those other dudes are)
Again, from wiki
"[15] Mitsuda has stated that Ootsuki's arrangement technique left a strong impact on him and notably influenced his next score, the soundtrack to Front Mission: Gun Hazard.[14]"

I've been listening to this at work today. A couple of those songs are amazing.
Jazzified VGM tunes might be the coolest thing ever.

It's not acid jazz but it rules, IMO.

Yep, one of my favorite albums. Most of the tracks don't really do much to distinguish themselves from regular jazz, in my opinion. I didn't know it was reprinted; maybe I should actually try to get a legitimate copy. yes! Not only is it technically an "official" square-enix (or squaresoft) remix album, it was also composed mainly by the original artist (though, i don't know who those other dudes are) Again, from wiki "[15] Mitsuda has stated that Ootsuki's arrangement technique left a strong impact on him and notably influenced his next score, the soundtrack to Front Mission: Gun Hazard.[14]" I'm pretty sure that means Mitsuda had nothing to do with the arrangement and that he is only listed as a composer because he composed the originals. I also vaguely recall that he was pleased to have something different than the usual orchestral arrangement.
