www.hardcoregaming101.net/penguinland/penguinland.htmThe action-puzzle game from Sega. It actually began as an SG-3000 game, and then got a sequel for the SMS, which is probably how most are familiar with it. There are also assorted remakes/sequels for the GameBoy, Mega Drive and PlayStation 2. I suck so badly at this game, which is why Derboo ended up writing it instead of myself. I think I can beat like one stage of the SMS version.

"below the save falling range" > that should probably be "below the safe falling range". "he bottom of the screen" > should be "the bottom of the screen". "Game no Kandume" > that's actually "Kanzume", and even "Gamu" instead of "Game", if you want to be perfectly accurate. In the Arrange version title, you forgot the first DO: currently it's "きどき", should be "どきどき".

"Game no Kandume" > that's actually "Kanzume", and even "Gamu" instead of "Game", if you want to be perfectly accurate. I know Hepburn writes "zu," but I kinda prefer the Nihon-shiki variant, cause it let's you know that there's technically a different letter in the name when compared to "zu" from ず. I also really dislike transcribing Anglicisms in Engrish (which would be gemu and not gamu, btw), I guess because of the weaboo smell that goes with it. The rest I fixed. Darn, I'll never get "save" and "safe" right. *sigh*

In the PS2 article. Stylistical liberty or unwanted typo?
Great article, regardless.

A mistake I'd make because English is my second language, perhaps? I'm incapable to see what's wrong with the sentence...

I mean, Penguin World instead of Land?

Ah, that's a typo!

Wow, I didn't know there were so many games in this franchise. I thought Penguin Land on Master System was just a standalone game. Still need to play that game. Got it as a gift a couple years ago.

Ha, I love the rotten-as-usual American box art. The whole egg's cracked open and the penguin is just staring at it like "eh."

I believe the first game is also placed in another planet. When the MSX version starts, you can see the spaceship crashlanded in the horizon.

Heh, I never noticed that. It's in the SG-1000 version, too (cause the MSX conversion is identical).

Hello!
I've recently been obsessed with this game and have played through all 50 levels on the SMS version. I've since scoured the web trying to find as much information as I could on this game and this page has been the most informative so far. Great summary!
A small correction though... to quote: "The level count is up to 50 now, with only the first 30 being selectable, so the final 20 have to be beaten in one painful run."
This was my initial assumption at first as well. However, if you beat any level starting from 30 and on, the level does become selectable from the level select at any point. The cartridge's memory even recalls it. So if you've played up to level 35, say, then booting the game up again will have levels 1-35 selectable.
That being said, now that I've beaten it, I'm currently attempting to do all 50 in a single run... I've only gotten to 14 so far, with the 3 lives you get at the start.
One of these days though I'll manage 1-50 in a single run, post my high score online and become the uncontested world champion of Penguin Land.
Cheers!
