www.hardcoregaming101.net/spellcasting/spellcasting.htmI've been delaying this article like forever, mostly because these games are incredibly hard. It's kinda a good incredibly hard, though, and you feel really smart when beating them. Spellcasting was Legend Entertainment's first series and introduced their text/graphical adventure game hybrid engine. It still is more reccommendable to play them as text adventures, though. They also got teh sexy, in a way Leisure Suit Larry has it.

Spellcasting was Legend Entertainment's first series and introduced their text/graphical adventure game hybrid engine. I thought TimeQuest was first.

Oh goodie. Loved these games back then. I was 15 and was bit disappointed to find out it wasnt as raunchy as I hoped, not to mention I couldnt hear any sex-noices on Windows 98.
I was also stupid, and didnt know how to solve most of the puzzles in these things (I did solve the beginning puzzle of 101 by myself, which is amazing when I think about it). Should get back and try again now. I would probably fare better.
Also, the guys playing the roleplaying game at 101 inspired me to try to do my own PNP junk. Nothing stellar, but was enough to keep me entertained for couple of weeks.

Is it just me, or do the screenshots feel a bit flattened? Mind you, it could have been that way in the original games, but I get the feeling it might be due to some transition process from the resolution the games use.

They run in high resolution so they needed to be resized for the article. They're thumbnails, though, so just click on them and you'll get the full picture.
