wow, does this board bring back fond memories. I first played the MS at a friend's house shen i was like 11. My Dad went out and bought one for us. Good times with hang-on and safari hunt. I played those two for like 3 months until i saved up enough to buy aztec adventure. man did i pwned that game! then i saw kenseiden, AW S**T!!!!!!!!! i had a pretty good library built up to around 30 or so MS games. My favorite was Psyco Fox. I had pre-ordered it out of a gaming magazine and had to wait like 10 months till i got it, but when i did, boy was i in love with it. There are soooooooooo many good, quality games for this system, my favorites are: aztec adventure, alex kidd miracle world, captain silver, zillion, kenseiden, wonder boy III: Dragon's Trap, wonder boy in monsterland, penguin land, shinobi to name a few. Thanks for helping me remember why i started playing video games in the first place.................

I only ever played that game on the gameboy, but man, that hawk is too cruel! I have only played Doki Doki Penguin Land on MSX1. Great game. I didn't liked the sequel for Genesis, though. Doki Doki Penguin Land for MSX1 is a port of the SG-1000 version. The Mega Drive Penguin Land was not a standard release, which is why it starts really easy. I heard that it was part of SEGA's online service or something. The Penguin Land for SMS that got released in the US is a sequel of sorts and quite good.

I don't know where I got that "Genesis" from, since that game was only released in Japan, therefore being for Mega Drive. ;D Anyway, I've done a little research on this game series, and here's title screen and gameplay screenshots of all versions of Doki Doki Penguin Land games (as far as I know): There's also Penguin Land handheld game from Bandai, but it has nothing to do with Sega's Doki Doki Penguin Land series, because in this game you don't roll any eggs, but throw bombs instead.

The MD one says "Koi no Dokidoki Penguin Land", which means rougly "Penguin Land of Love". I can't find what "ikasu ze!" means, can't read the subtitle either. I could be wrong but I think it's one of those retardedly expensive MD games, like $100+.

The MD one says "Koi no Dokidoki Penguin Land", which means rougly "Penguin Land of Love". I can't find what "ikasu ze!" means, can't read the subtitle either. I asked help from Wyrdwad from Ancient Land of Ys message board with these Japanese titles, and he was nice enough to translate them for me: The Japanese title of the Sega mark III game is: Doki Doki Penguin Land: Uchuu Daibouken (translates to: Doki Doki Penguin Land: Great Space Adventure) The Japanese title of the Mega Drive game is: Ikasu ze! Koi no Doki Doki Penguin Land (Translates to: Stylin'! Doki Doki Penguin Land of Love) Translator's note: "Stylin'!" is just one possible translation of "Ikasu ze!" -- you could also go with anything like "You're cool!", "You're hip!", "You're with it!", etc.

I've updated my picture with the screenshots of mobile phone/Vodafone version of Doki Doki Penguin Land, if anyone cares. It's one of the many SEGA AGES titles Japanese can download (in exchange for a small price) to their mobile phones. Everyone can tell the mobile version is based on the SG-1000 version of Doki Doki Penguin Land. Now I'm only missing screenshots from the Saturn version of Doki Doki Penguin Land. I have a feeling it's a part of Japan's "SEGA AGES Memorial Selection Vol. 2" for Saturn, but I can't confirm that (yet). Might have the exact same graphics as the PS2 version... So many releases of Doki Doki Penguin Land games that the series alone is worth of an article.

Yeah the Saturn version is definitely part of the Sega Ages series for the Saturn. Like all of those were pretty direct ports, so I'd place money on it being just like the arcade version.
And yeah, this is a good article topic. I'd love to do the Konami Penguin games too.

The Saturn version (on Memorial Selection Vol. 2) is exactly the same as the SG-1000 version. Since you can access an arcade mode where it says "Insert Coin" on the title screen, it must have been released into arcades (like some other SG-1000 games - www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=859).
