Is it just me, or are FPS games getting more and more gruesome and violent? I was looking at rumors about the next Call of Duty game and it said that the new Black Ops will be more gruesome than the already nasty Modern Warfare reboot coming this year. "When did video games get so violent and scary?" (Ralph, Wreck-It Ralph)
Anyway, I only knew about Vice thanks to HG101's NES Cult Classics book that I received and was interested in emulating it just a few days before the announcement came out!

I love me some Ninja Gaiden. But the feature/bug of the last boss in the original game can go and fuck itself. Single most discouraging thing about that game. Beat the 1st boss, get robbed of all your sub-weapons. Lose horribly to Jacquio. Get sent all the way back to the beginning of the gauntlet. Thank goodness they didn't make you fight the trio of end bosses restarting with the Masked Devil. At least Ninja Gaiden 2 only made you re-start at the 2nd half of the last stage. I actually tried to beat the game legit. But it's just so bullshit you only have one chance. It's like you spend 20 minutes screaming at the screen getting through some of the most bullshit moments in any NES game, get to the last boss. Then tell yourself not to panic as you've only one shot. You panic, totally fuck it up and you are sent back 4 fucking stages without having learned anything about how to deal with the bosses patterns. I had to save state and learn how to beat the boss then return to it and do it legit. It wouldn't be so bad except for the fact it's just near impossible to learn off the boss patterns with one panic life.

The NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy is worth a playthrough, to get a feel for what kids enjoyed back in the 1980's, early 1990's. There weren't many NES games with cinematic cut-scenes to drive the story of an action game. Plus, there's always the difficulty level that Gen-X/Gen-Y gamers reminisce about - a level of difficulty that isn't so bad once you get the hang of the play mechanics. And of course, ninjas/shinobi were so en vogue in that decade. Seems like the most significant ninja games of the past 10 years revolve around Naruto. I love me some Ninja Gaiden. But the feature/bug of the last boss in the original game can go and fuck itself. I've not played the NES Ninja Gaidens, but the Xbox Ninja Gaiden is certainly one of the best action games I've ever played. I especially love.... Rachel. Her.... bukkake scene always makes me laugh at how blatant and unsubtle it is. God, I'd kill for another Ninja Gaiden game from Team Ninja in that style. Yes, Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 was pretty good too, it's a shame there was never a proper third game. I've always found it interesting how the ninja obsession in American culture predates more general Japanophilia. The culture of weeaboos have an interesting evolution. Lots of karate and ninjas. We can thank Sonny Chiba films, Zatoichi, Karate Kid, Steven Seagal, Ninja Turtles, and the whole trend of martial arts B-movies like the American Ninja series. The localized anime consisted of gritty stuff. Golgo 13, Akira, Fist of the North Star, Vampire Hunter D, Urotsukidoji. Even Animated Series Batman learned how to fight via Karate lessons and even the O-nemuri Touch (the "Great Sleep" touch, the touch of death). Samurai, Shinobi, Sushi, Bonsai plants. Now weebs are a powerhouse to market to. I mean, even just taking an English loan word like "Costume Play," has turned around and become a global word and culture, as "Cosplay," that even gets featured as trivia questions on Jeopardy. Japanophiles now seem less focused on martial arts, and more on: food/cuisine, moe harem anime, figures/toys/gunpla, cars/tuning culture, harujuku fashion, etc etc. To say the least of the handful of maid cafes, and even bars that opened up in the area for a time. Yup, it's a fascinating evolution. But basically at first the interest was in "badass" aspects of Japanese culture and in most recent years it's evolved into more interest in "kawaii" culture.

Isekai needs to die.
Preferably in the most horrible way imaginable.

Yes. I am actually missing when card battle anime was really popular.

We had one of the best animes in recent years with Made in Abyss but the studio that made it is now making generic Rising of the Shield Hero generic Isekai garbage with the vague promise of a OVA follow up to Made in Abyss. And you can guess which one is more popular. We might not see the rest of the manga adapted (although the manga artist is pretty slow releasing new content).

Hahahaha~ while I usually feel like I've had enough isekai-genre since Magic Knight Rayearth, I actually do like Rising of the Shield Hero. It's quite a light-hearted and cute story with a funny take on RPG elements, and an overall mysterious air to the nature of the world. I'm still waiting for the manga to finish. I'd be willing to check out Made in Abyss. I've been looking for something new after finishing the recent season anime release season, but nothing seems all that appealing this month.

Is it true Konami's gonna re-do The Phantom Pain, including all of what Kojima wrote?

Judging by the filings, it looks like Konami is aiming to revive the Silent Hill series in some form.

So, Ion Fury came out, and i am playing it, on the second hardest difficulty, and damn, i quickly realized i was playing a Build game when i faced hitscanners and even the weakest of enemies taking a lot of HP, oh, and some small and annoying to hit enemies unless you use the pistol which is an amazing gun for anything except the really big enemies with a lot of HP, the pistol's secondary fire is amazing.
Oh, and damn, the secrets in this game are really well hidden, you will probably be looking at a place with a secret and not realize anything is there, and just going around hitting all the walls will not avail you, you will have to work for quite a few secrets, aside from that, really pretty game with a lot of detail and stuff to interact with, and damn, the weapons feel more fun to use than they were in the preview, and holy crap, when did the SMGs stop being just that and instead became flame thrower SMGs!?

That's pretty par for the course though, isn't it? Hasn't anime always been mostly pulpier series with more artistic stuff being rarer? Just be glad a series like Made in Abyss can still get made at all. Personally I love anime so much that I even like the pulpy stuff, even when it's not objectively great it's very rare that I watch a series and regret it afterward, usually I get some amusement and enjoyment it. Why were people so mad about Rising of the Shield Hero? I saw a lot of outage over it online but wasn't clear exactly what it was over, people really need to leave their modern hypersensitivity at the door when it comes to anime because it's the last thing that will ever walk on eggshells for the overly offended. Really? Just please, no more western developers please, unless maaaaaybe it's Climax, Shattered Memories was pretty good, something at least on that level would be something. But ideally they need to bring back some of the original Team Silent staff.

Ion Fury is really neato and it's so refreshing to play a FPS with actual level design. Why were people so mad about Rising of the Shield Hero? I saw a lot of outage over it online but wasn't clear exactly what it was over, people really need to leave their modern hypersensitivity at the door when it comes to anime because it's the last thing that will ever walk on eggshells for the overly offended. Mostly it was people annoyed with the premise of the false rape allegation, lots of people saying that false rape allegations are extremely rare from women and it shouldn't be trivialized. I had no issue with that myself but later on when a character had her name legally changed to 'Slut' as punishment, I felt very uncomfortable with. The thing about the series I hate the most is that I keep watching it because I keep hearing that it's good and then hating myself afterwards for wasting my time watching it.

I've just come across a webpage called Retromags that's in the job of preserving old and expired magazines (mostly video games but has some other ones available like anime magazine Protoculture Addicts) and strategy guides for viewing. But I'm under the impression that one needs to sign up to view the magazines. Does anybody use this site and how much does the site currently preserves with its mags? www.retromags.com/Update: Never mind. I seem to figure out things with the site. Very good place. Has EGM2 an Expert Gamer strategy guides which I regret throwing away years ago.
