As soon as the PS Mini gave a spot to the first Persona game, it was clear it won't be worth getting. Not for $100. But for $20~$40, it's not half-bad. I managed to get the fan-subs of Policenauts and Tales of Phantasia working on it, and quite happy with the results. Speaking of Revelations:Persona, what a long way that series has come. It went from racial/cultural localization editting to full-on embracing Japanese modern culture.

Steam was having a sale on the remastered Spyro trilogy so I picked that up. I'm enjoying the first one so far. I played it a bit when I was younger, though that was mostly in demo disc and store kiosk form.

The PS mini had PAL Tekken 3,no Chrono Cross,Soul Reaver and, especially no Ape Escape! Of course it's a rush job. Also, in no particular order (and not all necessarily my favorites but still SUPER CLASSICS: Wipeout? Silent Hill? Gran Turismo? Tomb Raider? Castlevania? Klonoa? Suikoden? CRASH!?! I mean, seriously... Oddly enough, most of those do seem like they were planned or at least tested—references show up in the source code Sony was required to release—but not Sony-owned Wipeout.

Well I understand there are some music licences that needs to be cleared for Wipeout and probably some... car rights...(?) for Gran Turismo. But again, Sega had Disney games on their mini console so surely Sony could’ve made these happen. No excuses.

I've finally started Dragon Quest XI S this week. I decided to turn on the Super Strong Monsters and No EXP From Weaker Enemies 'draconian quests'. I'm glad I did. I can't compare it to having them turned off, of course, but the enemies are nice and challenging. The no EXP thing kicks off pretty quickly. There were even some monsters where I ran into them for the first time and they were even too weak to yield EXP, though they can still give you some if you run into a different enemy and they happen to show up alongside. Anyway, I like the difficulty of the old DQ games, so I'm glad the option exists in DQXI to make the combat more challenging.
I was also quite surprised to see the battle system change when you enter the 2D world of the Tockles. It's the old DQ system where you select what each party member does first, and then the round plays out. That'll give me a good incentive to try out the 2D mode some time after I beat the game in 3D mode.

So on my YouTube channel, i uploaded the recently unearthed gameplay footage by Twitter user @ulchan2 of Toaplan's very last game to be developed before bankruptcy: Genkai Chousen Distopia. I hope someday that a surviving arcade board of GCD is found and preserved to avoid getting lost in the sand of time... Looks interesting! Though it doesn't feel too much like a Toaplan game, reminds me of Data East or SNK titles such as Two Crude, Cyber-Lip or Mutation Nation somewhat. I like that kind of post-apocalyptic scenery, more than those characters at any rate, so I hope they're going to unearth the board sooner or later!

A week of impulse buys for me. I am now the proud owner of a Model 1 Sega CD and a Dreamcast.
Except I have no games for either. Dreamcast looks like there some affordable stuff up for grabs on ebay. While the market for Sega CD games are either nosebleed expensive, or $40 bootleg repros.
But damned if that Genesis and Sega CD combo doesn't look nostalgically cool, sitting on the shelf.

Whelp my PSN account was hacked this morning. And they spent $500 on games I would never buy. New Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead 2, new FIFA, new WWE, dudebro went hard sterotypical with it... Sony's website is not immediately helpful for this kinda stuff. Looks like I get to call their phone line after work. Yeh...
Paypal and my bank will take care of the transactions no problem as I've already filed grievances/cases as soon as I saw them. I'm most concerned about not having access to my PSN. Why no 24 hour support Sony? Why doesn't the PSN require a verification when a log in on a new device happens? Goddamn you suck Sony. Teach me to link my Paypal to you. That was a mistake. Guess who'll be enabling two step verification if I get my account back.

Would you happen to know Japanese? Most of the retro Sega stuff is a lot less expensive in Japan. And their 2nd hand market is amazing, when they state "fine" condition the game comes like it was freshly picked from the tree that grew it.

Sometimes that gets added without the company making a big fuss. www.playstation.com/en-us/account-security/2-step-verification/

Does anyone have any experience with the PC version of Ys Seven? I'm having some weird issues, and I'm not sure if the problem is that I'm running it in WINE or if they're actual bugs. The main one is that it runs too fast when set to 30 FPS and too slowly but still smoothly at 60 FPS. I've been able to rule out hardware performance as a cause of the issue.
The default is 60 FPS and it just didn't feel right since Ys games are fast paced. 30 is definitely too fast based on YouTube videos. A small side note is that the timer is too slow at 60 but the right speed at 30. The music and sounds effects always play at the right speed. I might be temporarily switching to a newer laptop so hopefully that'll clear up the problem and also let me run Memories of Celceta as it just crashes when starting.

I own it, but hadn't played it since I already finished the game on PSP years ago. I installed it to test, though also in Wine (albeit on Linux rather than MacOS). The speed seems quite good to me. I recorded a quick test video which you can use to see if it matches your experience:
I found the text aspect ratio looked way off though (not shown). It was about half as high as it should have been,
I'm using Wine 4.19 for what it's worth.
