www.hardcoregaming101.net/virtuafighter/virtuafighter.htmSega's 3D fightin' series tends to get overshadowed in North American compared to the likes of Soul Calibur, Tekken and even Dead or Alive, but still occupies a hardcore niche that demands respect. I remember HATING this game when it came out, because I was a staunch 2D traditionalist even when I was...12 years old? Even though such a thing really didn't exist. I didn't really warm up to the series at all until VF4 came out...then I went back and played VF2 when I was doing the Sega Ages article, and got more into it. The AI in that game is brutal, though.

Still reading the article (Virtua Fighter PC was probably the first fighting game I ever played for more than 5 minutes, but I only got into 'em "for real" when I played SF2 on the SNES later - so even though I never got good at 3D fighters, that series is still dear to me), but
from Akira's bio has a typo in it.

It may be worth mentioning that the Virtua Fighter characters were given some of their VF3 moves in Fighters Megamix, and that Janet's moveset was mostly taken from Aoi's VF3 moveset, with a few unique moves of her own (most notably firing her gun).

VF3tb was one of four launch titles (Godzilla Generations, July, Pen Pen TriIcelon, VF3tb).

Yeah, that statement needed some qualifying. Put in the other suggestions, too.

Wait am I reading this right or are all the VF5 screenshots from the web? If you mean just the arcade version then you might want to clarify that statement. Otherwise I can grab some screens from Final Showdown.

They're all promo shots (at least I believe; sometimes they might get mixed up with screens some other site captured and it's impossible to tell where they originated). A couple original screenshots would be nice, especially (but not mandatory) if you have the custom costumes.

I have the costume packs. Gimme a list and I'll try to crank out something tonight.

I don't have any particular costumes in mind, just an interesting variety of them will do. A few shots of the characters posing with special objects like weapons would be nice.

I only have the game on PS3...if I had it on 360, I could get some slappy hot 720p direct feed shots over HDMI. From the PS3 I can only get 1080i/720p shots over component and the difference is noticeable as hell.

Did the Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2 get a physical release in America? For some reason, I thought it was promoted as a Sega Channel exclusive over here...

I believe it was the final release for the system - it actually came out in 1997, the year after the hardware had been discontinued.

I got into Virtua Fighter a bit late. Around 3tb for the Dreamcast.
I'd like to note that Virtua Fighter 2 is actually playable in Yakuza 5/Ryu ga Gotoku 5 as a mini-game, which you can actually go online through PSN. That alone blows my mind.
Speaking of Yakuza, I believe 4 and Dead Souls have a pachinko Virtua Fighter table too when you go into a casino. I can't say for sure if it's in 5.
