I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I had it as a child/teen and played it a LOT and I could never beat it. I knew it sucked, but I just kept playing. There was some satisfaction turning in machoman and using the special move to kill a bunch of enemies at the same time and get lots of 1ups. By the way, the Japanese version has a longer ending and credits: www.vgmuseum.com/end/nes/c/totsumacho.htmAmagon end for comparisons: www.vgmuseum.com/end/nes/a/amagon.htm

Nice article, and glad to see a fun game getting some attention -- but I'm pretty sure that the following is incorrect: It's been a while since I've played so I had to double-check, but the manual says that you can in fact continue once you reach Zone 4: "Continue mode cannot be used until Zone 4. If all four Amagons are eliminated at Zone 4 or afterwards, you can choose any zone except Zone 1, which has already cleared. Select a zone by pressing the Select button." So it's sort of the opposite of a lot of games, which take away continues in later levels. Here, once you reach the halfway point, it helps you out!
