www.hardcoregaming101.net/actionfighter/actionfighter.htmA lot of recent updates have about Sega clones of other games. This one's Sega's take on Spy Hunter. I mostly knew it from the Master System version - the arcade version is quite a bit more expansive, though still not fantastic.

I played the C64 version for a short time. Seemed ok. Didn't know the the arcade was so different compared to all the ports, that strikes me also as unusual.
Re: the paragraph about the CPC version, it's not like the specs of the standard machines (not the + line which came later) are really that similar to the C64 when it comes to the hardware support for arcade games. There are no hardware sprites for instance, and the CPC screen takes up more memory, which is why a lot of games didn't make use of the full size of it.

I played the SMS port of Action Fighter to death during my days in high school. Back when I had access to only a few good games, instead of thousands, as I do now.
Fun little game, I like how you could move at different speeds during the driving stages.
I would like to see more SHMUPS with variable speed control, but with Cave-style graphics.
I have only seen a few vertical SHMUPs with that feature, like Slordax, River Raid, Project Viper and of course Spy Hunter.
