Multiple dead image links, but solid. Forgot that the Hollywood game actually did come out.

The page 2 link is the same as the page 1 link. The "next page" link still works though.

I remember playing the first Spot game on C64 back in the 90's. I wonder what's up with that version, 'cause it never gets mentioned.

I remember seeing Spot: The Cool Adventures in Nintendo Power way back in the day, and it seemed like a really nifty game. It still looks really nifty. But I guess I'd be better off with NES M.C. Kids.
Wasn't Fido Dido used as 7-Up's mascot in North America for quite some time as well? He was certainly prevalent enough in Canada.
By the way, the second page has some question marks replacing punctuation.

Funny that I saw this article just after trying the Spot arcade game on MAME. It was part of a small lineup of games brought to this system called Arcadia, developed by a company of the same name along with Mastertronic (most games were theirs).

Yup, the Spot game on SNES was pretty nifty. I like games with tiny characters in the comparatively huge real world. There, Little Big Planet was directly inspired by Spot. You heard it here first.

I own the Game Boy Spot port. I agree, the music is pretty amazing. Also, it's the only GB game I can think of to exploit a side-effect of the original Game Boy's LCD screen: when the game ends, the game very rapidly flickers between the game board and the " WINS" message. On emulators or more recent Game Boys, this looks pretty terrible; on the original GB, the "ghosting" artifacts of the screen actually lend it a nice semi-transparent appearance.

I saw the article. It questioned if Spot's Cool Adventure and McDonaldland were Virgin's effort to sell the game twice. Pretty sure they're regional variants. Spot's Cool Adventure was the American and Japanese version (too bad they never got the NES McKids) and McDonaldland was the EU (and AU?) version. With Cool Spot, I recall that you could win something (maybe a T-shirt?) if you beat the game on Hard and spell Uncola, which I guess would require getting 100% score on at least six levels (I could've even find them all on the first level!) to earn the right to go the bonus stage, then win, then don't lose the letters by using a Continue (well, unless you can 100% another stage) to get a special screen to photograph and mail in. I can remember Fido Dido appearing in America at least in commercial bumpers for a Saturday morning cartoon block (CBS, I think), so he wasn't completely non-appearing if his two games had actually been released. I thought there was supposed to be a SNES version of Spot Goes To Hollywood, but it was canceled. A bit surprising since I thought in the 16-bit twilight days the SNES gained a leader over what was left of the 16-bit market. Game Boy LCD side-effect? I think Taz-Mania used screen flicker to simulate transparent water in the first level (the NA-exclusive Sunsoft game, not the EU Taz-Mania which was Taz-Mania 2 was basically a mod of bad generic license game We're Back: A Dinosaur Story, which itself was released with a few license swaps in Europe.) Link's Awakening used flicker for the credits. I've heard a shooter called ZAS used it extensive for amazing backgrounds but I don't know myself because I don't have a real copy because it's one of the most expensive and sought-after GB games around.)

I remember playing the first Spot game on C64 back in the 90's. I wonder what's up with that version, 'cause it never gets mentioned. I honestly didn't know there was a version for the C64. It actually looks pretty good, considering they actually got Spot's animations in there. I'll make a note to write something on it, and I'm sorry for missing it! Wasn't Fido Dido used as 7-Up's mascot in North America for quite some time as well? He was certainly prevalent enough in Canada. I thought he was the mascot for Frito in the UK, although I could be wrong on that. Part of the reason I didn't write about the Fido Dido game is that I couldn't really find out much about where Fido Dido actually came from. That, and his game was confusing and terribly designed. Maybe another day.

Maybe another day. I managed to beat that one a few months ago, so if you want I could help ya with it. It's only stage 1 that's rather confusing in its goals; the later stages, while confusing and not very well designed, at least are a slight bit more straightforward than the first.

Now that I remember he also used to be 7-Up's mascot over here up until a few years ago, when they redesigned their logo and whatnot.

And now I don't think 7-Up even advertises in the US anymore. (or maybe it's just where I am, maybe that's because locally Pepsi replaced it with the IMO inferior Sierra Mist, so restaurants don't serve it anymore. Haven't seen one since they stopped the crude humor commercials with the one black guy. Only saw it on youtube but the one where the machine hunts down people and shoots cans at their nuts "to serve customers as conveniently as possible" is awesome. )
