That would give new meaning to "Enter the Gecko". Well, looking at Gex 3, that's almost what they managed to do, considering where Agent Xtra's actress came from.

A Japanese developer releases a game called Genkii no Gex-chan!!! (Hypothetically)

That's really interesting, Fear Effect would do well - I wonder if this means someone could dig up the unreleased code/art of Inferno. It seems like they want indie teams to pitch to them so something good might come of this - we could see a lot of B-List franchises popping back up if other publishers follow this lead.

That definitely sounds interesting... There should be a Gex hentai game kind of like what happened to Valis. If it were like those, it'd pretty much consist of 90% gecko tail rape and the rest would just be flatout weird. Think about it. ...I apologize for leaving such mental imagery to everyone.

Congratulations to our winners, Gex, Plok, and Ardy Lightfoot!
May we all come out of this experience with our minds intact.

Looking at their website (which is pretty interesting), I wonder if the Pickford Brothers would be up for answering any questions for the podcast. I was reading their website and it was pretty interesting - they even mentioned the "mascot explosion" of the early 1990's, and how they were pissed that they'd ended up releasing Plok in the middle of it, despite having worked on it in different forms since the late 80s.

While they aren't the GC9X titles, from what I remember Gex 2 and 3 were also on PSN, but on Europe.

Starting off with Ardy Lightfoot, here. It's the shortest and easiest of the three, and it's just a charming little game.
I'll go ahead and drop this tip, just because it's not super obvious: hold up on the d-pad for a little bit, and Ardy pulls out his inexplicable ninja invisibility cloak and becomes invincible (though immobile). You can keep it up for about four or five seconds. Enemies will continue trying to attack you, so sometimes you're forced to put the cloak down and just take the hit anyway, but it does have its uses-- try it on the first boss.

Courtesy of a typed manual on World of NintendoPlok is going to be by far the most pain in the butt game to win of the three. The manual is fairly comprehensive so best to give it a read. Collect the shells for extra lives, beat a level without losing a life to gain a letter, spell Plok and you'll get ONE single "Ploktinue" which will let you restart from the end of the level you earnt it ONCE. Ardy Manual can be found here. The Gex 3do manual can be found here. I don't know if there's any interesting regional/platform differences but I doubt it.

Played through Ardy today; it's every bit as good as I remember it. It's definitely a kid-oriented platformer, though the difficulty takes a huge spike towards the end of the game, and the final boss took me something like 20 minutes to beat. I'd put it up there on a pedestal with the likes of Capcom's Disney's Magical Quest games. Uninspired, but solid. I'm not sure these are necessary, but here's some tips for the gauntlet at the end of the game: Mechanics tip for Scene 14: If you're riding Pec and you use him again, you'll dismount and he'll retain his red color. Any flight time he has remaining will carry over until the next time you deploy him. Pretty sure you can't get through this bit without figuring this out. Game-breaking tip for Scene 16: You can use the cloak to pass through absolutely everything dangerous in this level. I'm sorry. Minor tip/strategy if the final boss is giving you grief: In the second stage of the fight, I ran into a problem where I'd pogo off a ball, and he'd perform a leap at the same time I was headed at him. Sometimes I'd clear his head and make the hit, and other times I'd smack into his face and take damage. It was really inconsistent for me. The safe way around it is to only pogo off the first ball he throws; he'll jump after the second one. You'll need to keep your pogo charged all the time to be ready for when he throws that first ball, but, of course, he randomly throws lightning into the mix. As soon as you see him start to telegraph his lightning spell, let go of the B button and hold up-- you'll have barely enough time to land and get your cloak out. Maybe I was going about his second form the wrong way, but this is how I was able to get through it consistently without taking damage.

Ho boy, I really wanted to like Ardy. It's a title that could have been really special, but just came across over thought yet undercooked gameplay. I love how they through everything they had at the concept for Ardy as a playable character, the only thing he was missing was skateboard! Let just run down the list: anthropomorphic mammal, overalls, winged hat, pogo tail, invisible cloak, transforming pet companion... am I missing something? Also, the style and world were pretty memorable too, delivered with neat cutscenes that worked right into the gameplay. If it had cleaner controls and gone a bit more in the direction that Donkey Kong Country would, only a year later, maybe we would have seen more of Ardy and Pec.
Something else really stuck out to me. The sprite for Ardy is actually rendered very differently than some of the human characters in the game, like his girlfriend. Kinda makes me wonder if they had changed the main character into Ardy in midstream in response to some focus group or something. Can't say for sure, it's just a hunch. But it would explain why Ardy seems so over thought.
What do you guys think?

Guys, I'm going to say this because it can save you some pain on Ardy's final boss. This I'd consider more of a suffering saver than a spoiler but here it is. He tries to sucker punch you after you beat his second form. Also seriously, Scene 13 can go Zub a Zub, way to embody pretty much every problem with Ardy in a single stage game.
