www.hardcoregaming101.net/off/off.htmThis is a glimpse into the world of French language RPG Maker games. A fairly standard game, considering the engine, but with some realllly strange artwork and a trippy soundtrack.

Nice to see some OFF representation.
Never did get past the "first world," but I did really enjoy what I played. I need to come back to this game someday.

It's cool to see it published! There is something weird though: The link to the interview was removed. I did send you a mail about removing mentions of the translation team because their interview didn't happen in the end, but that doesn't affect the fact that there still is an interview of Mortis and ACC in that link.

My mistake! I thought that interview was down too, I hadn't checked. I'll add it back in before it goes live.

I saw a lot of this on Tumblr around spring or so, then it all pretty much disappeared when Homestuck got updated again or something (someone even pointed out that people are using OFF as sort of a "replacement fandom" since there hasn't been Homestuck stuff for a while).

Pretty much my experience with OFF too. This thing blew up all over Tumblr a while back, but it was doomed to be one of those short lived fandoms. The game itself looks pretty unique looking tho, nice to see it getting a article here.

I've also just realized that the MP3 player doesn't appear - and that couldn't be otherwise, since the source code for it isn't there anymore. I suppose it might have been omitted during edition. Since the folders structure has changed, here's the new code for it:
<p class="centered"> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="music/dewplayer-multi.swf" width="240" height="40"id="dewplayer-multi"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="music/dewplayer-multi.swf" /> <param name="flashvars" value="mp3=music/1_peppersteak.mp3|music/2_despsafe.mp3|music/3_unrbehav.mp3" /></object> </p>

Truth be told, I never really had much attention for OFF. One of the reasons was, as aforementioned, that it was popular mostly among the Homestuck community, which contains some of the most annoying and talentless scene kids on the whole bloody web, and while I usually don't let my enjoyment of something smudge by its fandom, it's very hard to ignore when the medium itself is at home on the web (granted, I think Homestuck itself is a steaming pile of shit, too).

This seems less like a post about OFF and more of a "I really want to shoehorn my hatred of something into this thread for no reason". Was this really necessary.

That's your interpretation, not my words. Nah, it's pretty much the same thing. Unless I missed the deeper meaning behind "I never payed attention to this game and have no further opinions on it, but this webcomic and its fans are shit." But sure, "interpretation", let's go with that. Anyway, nice article, game looks lovely and unique. The music is so fucking good tho, would love to hear more stuff like this in games. Don't think I've heard anything like it in one before. I hope the creators work on something new together, as it's always weird when a big indie game comes out of nowhere, and the creators never follow up its success with anything else (I'm still WAITING Pixel...)

Look closely; I said I didn't get into the game because of its connections to the Homestuck fandom . Of course it's bullshit to conclude that "fans of X like it, so it must suck", which unfortunately seems to be a pretty popular fallacy, if Scott Pilgrim is anything to go by, but it's quite difficult to look up in-depth stuff about the game on the web or try and discuss it at more popular places without having to sift through countless HS community entries, so I put it lower on my list of priorities. It looks very much like a game that wants to be talked about, so I'd prefer to oblige rather than just play it for myself and be done with it. That said, enough of my rambling. Maybe you guys can make this game palatable to me .

If that can help you go over your inhibition, know that this game wasn't hip at all when it was first released. Back in the time of its release, self-proclaimed fans of this game would probably amount to less than fifty. Since its designers didn't think it was worth any publicity, its release was kind of private, and the fact that it was french-only obviously narrowed its audience. The english translation only came years later and wasn't planned at all.
Besides, the only reason why it's related in any way to the Homestuck fandom is the fact that these guys are "into the last free indie stuff", IMO.
