Manga artist Makoto Ogino passed away on April 29, at the age of 59. He was best known for his action/horror series, Peacock King, which he debuted with in 1985. That series was adapted into Spellcaster on the Master System, Mystic Defender on the Genesis, and two self-titled fan-translated adventure games from the NES. He also helped create the Genesis action RPG King Colossus, which also got a fan translation. He was still working on two series related to Peacock King. RIP.

I love spell caster and mystic defender. Thanks for clarifying the name of the original manga. I’ll have to look into it.

psygnosis8If you want to check out the manga, Hokuto no Gun is scanlating it. They're only at the beginning of the second volume, though. The main story starts around the end of volume 3 - before that it's episodic stuff. I got into the history of the franchise in the article for this site.

Italian writer Andrea Camilleri passed away yesterday after an illness. He was 93. His most famous character was Inspector Montalbano but he wrote more than 100 books, curiously enough mostly in his old age.
