www.hardcoregaming101.net/kingkong2/kingkong2.htmThese two Konami games, for the Famicom and MSX2 are, based off of the mid-80s movie King Kong Lives. The FC game is an overhead action game where you play as the eponymous ape, the MSX2 game is action-RPG where you play as the human.

Very interesting couple of games and article.
There's a rogue <.p> masquerading as an HTML tag int he middle of it.

Played both, actually enjoyed the MSX 2 game more, it had a bit more variety, though the FC game is still good.

The author compared the MSX King Kong 2 to Ys, Hydlide and Exile... I'll grant you Hydlide, but the only thing that it shares with Ys and Exile is the overhead perspective.
However, the game that should really be compared to is to Konami's own Survival Kids. I know it came much later, but it plays exactly like King Kong 2, minus the item-combining mechanics.
You're in an island, the days are counted, you collect items to survive, you fish, you use knives and axes, you have a radio and the graphic style is VERY similar.
Anyone care to add a mention to Survival Kids?

In retrospect, I think Asian/Eurasian bootleggers missed a perfect opportunity to put this game in their multi-game cartridges and call it Donkey Kong 2/Lives/Returns.

At one point Nintendo announced a game called Donkey Kong Returns for the NES, but not even Howard Phillips remembers anything about it, from what I heard.

I know it's a little belated to post now but I'm the author of the article. Thank you to those people who have read my little article and given feedback. It's always good to hear feedback!
