www.hardcoregaming101.net/hero/hero.htmThis classic Activision game began on the Atari 2600 but received a number of ports, included the SG-1000 in Japan. This was one of those games I was fascinated with when I wa a kid even though I didn't have it, mostly because a guy with a helicopter backpack is just about the coolest thing ever when you're four.

Japanese fanart of HERO...note where the dynamite came from. I have fond memories of this game because it was a lot more complex than your average 2600 game, more along the lines of something you'd see on NES.

The water effect in this game is really impressive. Been meaning to play this after seeing a longplay ages ago!

This was one of those games I was fascinated with when I wa a kid even though I didn't have it, mostly because a guy with a helicopter backpack is just about the coolest thing ever when you're four. Haha, I can remember having the same reaction at much the same age (I was a little older, around 8 or so, when I saw the game cover in a catalog (The long body shot where he's saluting)), running around imagining I was flying around on the backpack. I didn't get a chance to actually play the game until years later, when I was visiting some friends of my parents and their kid had a 2600 setup, so I spent the afternoon with him going through his massive 2600 collection. (It was one of those sessions where I watched more than played, but I was happy enough to see the games. I think he did let me play for a little bit some of the 2 player games, like Boxing, haha)

Made another tiny addition to this article, because I was informed that there is an Atari ST shareware game that borrows the H.E.R.O. title (although it doesn't have much in common with this game otherwise).
