www.hardcoregaming101.net/henryhatsworth/henryhatsworth.htmOne of the very few Western-developed portable games that isn't a shovelware/licensed cash-in, this is a weird, off-the-wall combination of a 2D action-platformer and a puzzle game, starring the most British hero in existence. It came out during that short period of time when Electronic Arts was doing really cool, really experimental stuff, before they realized that it didn't make them enough money and they went back to being terrible. We've actually got a review with some of the designers pending, so that will be posted shortly!

Yo, I heard some music from this game on a Video Game Music Youtube once, and it was fucking awesome. So awesome, I went out and bought the game with no idea of what it was.
Haven't tried playing it yet, but let's have a read of this article, see if it's worth it!

The soundtrack was available for free on the game's official website around the time of its release. (Maybe it's even there now?) It is indeed a jamming piece of work. It's an unusually difficult game, and I never finished the second playthrough. The challenge is never wholly unfair, though, except when it comes to the secret exits, some of which are just nuts. In one case you literally have to jump into an otherwise undistinguished lava pit. EDIT: Oh, and the final boss has this one particular obnoxious 1-hit KO attack that, in one of its forms, appears to be quite unstoppable. It seems the only way to get through is if you happen to know which of Henry's attacks to spam.

I have a copy but can't find where I put it. I heard that company's follow up is pretty good as well (Monster Story? I think).

I remember avoiding this because the idea of switching between platforming and puzzling sounded unwieldy. I may need to track this down now.

Yeah, I remember in 2008 when EA released games like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, it was heartwarming to see them actively try to improve themselves, but of course it didn't take long for them to throw that out the window and go back to their old ways.

Wow, very suprised to learn this comes from EA of all places. This one's on my games-that-I-planned-to-buy-when-it-was-new-but-didn't list. Guess I'll pick it up if I see it cheap some day.

Bought my sisters both this and Monster Tale, but I think I've honestly gotten more playtime out of them than they have.

One of the best and most original games I've ever played. I was also surprised that this game was produced from EA. Spoiler alert: Monster Tale seems that is somehow connected to Henry Hatsworth since Ellie, the main character of MT, refer to her adventurer uncle. The description she makes for her uncle matches perfectly with HH. Also MT has some common gameplay elements with HH like the interaction between both screens of Nintendo DS. As about MT I found this part from Wikipedia article very weird: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_TaleThat would make sense at late '80s and early '90s (reason why awesome games like Monster World IV probably weren't released outside Japan at their debute). But in 2011? Seriously? Also the part with "mature/sexy female" makes me post this video:

Finally got around to reading this. Some errors: ? Mind=might? Chances = challenges Really = rely Unfair=fair You forgot to mention that enemies damaged enough will turn into harmless flashing blocks. Also, shouldn't this article include a full Monster Tale review considering it's set in the same universe? Spoiler: Ellie being Henry's grand niece and Zoe's kingdom being the puzzle realm.

A'ight, I fixed those.
I can't recall hearing anything about Monster Tale. Apparently a 3DS remake is incoming?

My problem is that... I'll be honest, I just really didn't like Monster Tale all that much. It was hardly a bad game, but my problem is that it's a Metroidvania. And being totally honest, there are very few Metroidvanias I don't find really dull, in terms of level design and combat. The monster breeding gimmick was all right, being somewhat less obtrusive than Henry's puzzle gimmick, but I feel it didn't affect as much in terms of actual gameplay. Besides that, the character designs, boss fights, and music were pretty dull, which is a pretty huge downer considering how good they were in Henry.
Power of Illusion kind of got even worse, for being a pretty unnoteworthy platformer that pretty much forced you to stop every 15 seconds or something and draw on the screen to accomplishing anything, basically straight out of an early DS game.

I wanted to do Monster Tale separately at some point. If not myself, then would definitely be interested in someone else covering it.
