Something interesting to note about TekWar is that the source code for it and a few other Capstone FPS games was released by one of the programmers a couple years ago! Unfortunately nobody has done anything with it.

Or a Priceline Negotiator mod.

I thought there was something suspicious about the fact that the topic/poll went up BEFORE the month had already started.

Clearly the only appropriate mod for TekWar is a Rescue 911 mod!

Quick dosbox mounting primer for anyone who needs it! Now, I'm going to assume you're pretty familiar with dosbox for the most part, so if I gloss over anything you're not sure about, please let me know here or on the IRC. Unfortunately, it's come to my attention that this won't work with the image I uploaded since it's a .NRG file, but a .ISO or .BIN/.CUE should work just fine. Let's go ahead and fire up dosbox and get this train wreck a-rollin'. Once you get in, you'll see a prompt much like this: The next step is to create a C drive for dosbox to install things to. As you can see above, I've already MOUNTed my C drive inside a special folder I created for this purpose, but that's partly because I'm an organized freak. The format for this command is going to be mount c [because every dos computer looks at C: first] followed by the folder you want to assign to the C drive [in my case, that would be d:\games\dosbox\cdrive]. The -freesize parameter is something I added to simulate the hard drive only having a certain amount of drive space left, which some dos installers look for. In this case, we're going to go as simple as possible. mount c c:\dosbox
There, now our dos machine has a hard drive. Next, we'll give it a CD drive. Again, we're going to assume the simplest as possible. If you have the disc image in C:\temp\tekwar.iso or something similar, then this is going to be the command you type. imgmount d [because disc images work slightly differently than actual hard disks] c:\temp\tekwar.iso [the location of your disc image] followed by -t iso which tells dosbox what kind of data it's looking at. This part is important, because without it, it will try to guess at how big the image is and it will fail. imgmount d c:\temp\tekwar.iso -t iso Once this is done, all you have to do is switch to your D: drive d: [enter]
and install the game
install [enter] Once this part is done, the game itself should provide you the information to run the game. Again, if I glossed over anything you're not sure about here, let me know and I'll be happy to give you more in-depth information.

After briefly grappling with the controls, I've managed to take out two of the Tek Lords! Probably the most baffling part of this game so far is the player physics: they're somehow slippery while also being incredibly stiff. Pair that with the odd jumping and crouching controls, and you're in for a fun time! I'll post some "tips" later, but I'm curious to see how far everyone else has made it.

I couldn't figure out how to beat the "first" stage yet, unless neither of the crime lords you went for were Marty Dollar. I'm not sure if number necessarily dictates difficulty in this game... though I will mention two problems I've had in the first stage that could be troublesome throughout the other levels: A: Will cops shoot at you even if you're trying to shoot a bad guy in their presence? B: Why can't I bring out other weapons besides my typical pistol peashooter sometimes? I dunno if this is a glitch or if I pressed some key I shouldn't, but I swear I was locked out of drawing other weapons besides the default one.

This may be the first game I attempt to play along with GC9X (assuming I can pull myself away from Dark Souls 2 long enough). I find the premise of this game oddly intriguing, but just looking at the screenshots I can tell it's not going to be that great. I'd never heard of TekWar, so I was fairly surprised to find out it's a book series. I'm assuming Shatner came up with the idea, but apparently the novels were ghost written. It reminds me of what Leonard Nimoy did with the Primortals comic book series (I believe they even had plans for a Primortals game, but I'm not sure if that ever came to be as I've only ever read the first issue of the comic).
Anyway, I'll see if I can get this working when I get off of work later this afternoon.

A: Will cops shoot at you even if you're trying to shoot a bad guy in their presence? They will yes. B: Why can't I bring out other weapons besides my typical pistol peashooter sometimes? I dunno if this is a glitch or if I pressed some key I shouldn't, but I swear I was locked out of drawing other weapons besides the default one. The way the game handles weapon switching is funky. When your weapon is holstered, you can freely switch to any weapon, but when a weapon is drawn, you immediately holster your weapon and have to hit the fire button again to draw the new one. As for Marty Dollar, his stage is broken up between two subway stops. The first leads to a small area with a museum, bank vault, and office. Clear out all the buildings. You'll know you're ready to move on to the next area once you have a red and blue key. From there, head back to the subway, then take the next exit. The following area is much larger and harder to navigate, so the only advice I can give you is to scour the buildings looking for secret rooms. Marty Dollar is hiding behind a large door guarded by a turret and locked with the blue key card. Be careful which weapon you use to kill people! The Orlow, the large pistol that looks like the Magsec from Perfect Dark, is incredibly powerful, but gibs enemies. This has the nasty habit of destroying whatever items they were carrying, including key cards! Oddly enough, when I found Marty Dollar, one of his mooks ended up shooting him in the back and killing him instantly, which immediately ended the mission in success. :p

While this is true, I've also run into the same bug that sotenga mentioned, and I'm not sure what causes it either. Even if you run out of ammo for your pistol/funkified MP5K, you should still have your little stun pistol, but it doesn't seem to let you switch to that. I'm wondering if it has something to do with changing the controls to anything but default? Also, since we found that my .NRG image was causing more issues than it was fixing, I went ahead and deleted it and fixed my post. Do we have a better image rehosted somewhere already?
