Hm...this is going to take some serious adjustment.

Parry, parry, and more parry.
It felt weird having a shield when I ran out of spells on my recent sorcery character. I can just completely negate damage by standing still? Say what?

Finally started this game. Jesus Christ, how do you play Dark Souls without a goddamn shield? By using a goddamn hand cannon. You'll get used to it. It feels different to have to stay on the offensive. But it'll click pretty early on.

Yay, I beat the game!
I got the second ending. As always I'm trying NG+ and I'll aim for the Platinum.
I think it's pretty cool to play without a shield. Remember, "shields are nice, but not if they engender passivity."
Yesterday I also tried playing online for the first time. Let's say it didn't go exactly as planned.
First time, I rang a bell close to Gascoigne's. I was summoned after a minute or two but the host was nowhere to be seen. Then realized I didn't have bullets because I had been dicking around with the 15 arcane spells. I went downstairs and the two enemies there killed me.
Second time, I reached the Grand Cathedral and summoned another player. I hadn't triggered the cutscene with Vicar Amelia, so the guy probably thought it was a waste of time and left as I walked up the stairs. Ok, then, I approached the boss and she killed me quickly. Let's try again.
Third time's the charm. Once again a player was quickly found and we began to fight Amelia. My guest is quite good and we were totally wrecking her. 25% HP left, he suddenly left. Maybe he was killed? I don't know. I rushed to the boss, determined not to squander his gift, and she kills me literally one hit away from killing her. Typical Dark Souls. It doesn't even make angry anymore (: I went back and killed her myself.
Fourth and last time, 'let's return the favor'. We walk in, I rush, whoop, I'm dead.
Anyway, so far, I'm doing fine in single player (;-_-)
So far NG+ hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. DSII's NG+ was much harder, it had those damned red phantoms and the altered boss fights (Lost Sinner, Flexible Sentry). Generally the bullshit factor in Bloodborne seems to be lower.

I am totoally expecting a Bloodborne 2 as the next FROM game now. Unless.... King's Field reboot? I remember reading something about their next game being a reboot of an older franchise. Many people screamed ARMORED CORE! Or even Otogi (which would kick ass), but I'm thinking that their best bet is King's Field, especially now that they have a STRONG fanbase in this particular genre (dark fantasy stuff 'n things)

Purple Moss Nice job going the whole game alone. There's a few bosses I definitely needed outside help with.

Interesting that this topic just bubbled to the top, considering I'm about to start the game tonight. We'll see how well this goes, considering I don't have PS Plus to summon player help. Hopefully the NPC helpers will be good enough; otherwise I may break down and get a couple months until I finish the game.

Or Echo Night.

Before we even think about a sequel, let's wait for the Dark Souls III DLC. With the whole meta schtick in the main game, I wouldn't be surprised if they went as far as to make an entire episode dedicated to Bloodborne references, just for shits and giggles.

Got to try this at a friend's house for the first time this past week. Fun as Hell and I want to get it (and a PS4) myself once I have my own place.
It's requiring me to unlearn everything from the Souls series, though---I didn't realize at first that counterattacking regained health and now I think my tactics were way too cautious initially. Or maybe I need to lure out enemies THEN go berserk.
Either way it's hard as Hell and I'd say harder than the Souls games I've played so far.
