Heya Kurt. So I am at a friend's house and I'm telling him about this site, he says "show it to me", he proceeds to turn on his computer and when I'm opening the explorer I freeze.... I realized I really didn't remember the URL (*gasp*). I had to google hardcore gaming 101 to come here My point is, haven't you considered buying a simpler and easier domain name for Hardcore Gaming 101? Maybe www.hcg101.com , even if it redirects to the long classicgaming.gamespy URL of course. But it's a simpler URL you can pass around without striking fear into the hearts of cybernauts

Yeah I was talking with my roommate about this awhile ago. I think someone did it for the Dungeon without me knowing it, which I was cool with. Dunno if it's still around.
If it's cheap - and apparently it is - it's probably worth a shot. The Gamespy people prefer that we don't (they want their name in there technically) but I don't think it's strictly prohibited.

Well it still redirects to the gamespy one, so it shouldn't really matter.... unless they find out

Isn't classicgaming.com/reviews simple enough? I've got that keystroke memorized

Well it is fairly simple, but since I have it bookmarked I never bothered to actually type it in, and in that sence I never actually knew what the URL actually was until now.

"Isn't classicgaming.com/reviews simple enough? I've got that keystroke memorized " He can't buy that domain 'cause gamespy owns it already and besides, that url is so impersonal and un-carasteristic of this site With a domain like www.hg101.com everyone would know what you're talking about and it's easier than typing that whole classicgaming.gamespy.com url. Do't forget, we have it bookmarked, but most people don't. You need an URL people can remember. "and in that sence I never actually knew what the URL actually was until now. " Exactly, same thing happened to me today. But what if you want to enter the site from another computer? You won't be able to remember the URL unless you googled it

I payed 8 bucks for the domain registration for a year with GoDaddy, not knowing that I could only get it for 2 bucks with an easy to get coupon. Includes free hosting with that big white banner on top. Getting rid of the banner will cost me something like $38 a year minimum, but I keep postponing it. Anyways, I told Kurt already, he should at least buy a domain name (both sites). There's a lot of quality material in both sites and they do deserve their own domain name, instead of GameSpy leeching from them. Other advantages are that you can host your own music files or videos, without having to register to FilePlanet; and no flash ads. P.S. Call me crazy, but I miss the old version of The Castlevania Dungeon site

Why buy the cow when you get the milk free? It seems like a no brainer, but is not that simple. You get more exposure by buying a domain name, it's easy for everybody to remember your URL, and it just looks professional. Regarding free hosting, most of the times you have a limited amount of space and bandwidth that is low, and uploading videos and audio will kill your account. So you have to upload them in places like FilePlanet, which in turn becomes a hassle for your viewers since they have to sign up to it. Then you have to deal with ads, which is the main deterrent. Some are better than others, like HC101, but have you ever seen a site hosted at Angelfire or Geocities? Very annoying. (BTW, is Angelfire still around???) I used to have a Masamune Shirow site back in 1997 hosted for free on Tripod. They were pretty good, except they only gave me 10 mgs of space!! lol Nowadays that equals to 1 article at BlameTheControlpad (the OutRun article weights 100 mgs!!).

He doesn't have to leave gamespy for buying a domain name.

While we're on the subject, anyone ever wonder why Capcom didn't decide to be funny and make their site www.cap.com ?
