About 2 1/2 hours in (just started the Soul Star bit), and I'm enjoying it... wish I hadn't missed the stream! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say about Eternal Champions. It's actually a good fighter for the time, but holy shit the fatalities in that game are incredibly fucked up. It'd have been groovy if you could've been there - also, we need to get you on another podcast, you did great on Deus Ex. The Eternal Champions part is pretty good, IMO - and they showed off a good amount of the background fatalities and some Cinekills. I totally agree about the fatalities - that cauldron one gave me nightmares.

I never did show off Dawson's stage fatality, for how easy it is to pull off. I don't know what kind of reference material the developers got for a human being run through with a giant spiked log but I imagine that's exactly what it would look like. Especially for being from the guys who brought us Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude.
I should have shown off more special moves, too, but... seriously, they're REALLY awkward.

It's one of the tiny handful of Sega CD games I got to play when the system was contemporary, so I was interested in what everyone had to say about it. It's not an all-time classic game by any stretch, but at the time it was really cool. The game has decent animation and runs smoothly, tons of moves, tons of fatalities, tons of characters, just an absolutely massive amount of content in general. On top of that, the special moves are quite creative (something that was mentioned in the video) to an extent other fighting games wouldn't match for a very long time. A lot of the special moves are really awkward to do and the game balance is all kinds of broken as hell, but you can't fault the developers for not making an effort, because they really went all out trying to add as much content and as many cool ideas as they could.

I never played it back in the day because of playing the first game and not really caring for it, but after the fact I like the Sega CD version better. After playing the CD version the main complaint I can think of is that the computer seems really cheap - the fact that everyone seems to be able to counter attacks and pull theirs off with insane reliability (when the inputs for yours aren't always easy to do) pissed me off, and the boss stuff was beyond SNK-unfair. That being said, I agree 100 percent with you about the content and the "love" put in. It is freaking gorgeous, there's an insane amount of variety in the look and moves of the characters (considering how many palette-swap characters were in a lot of its contemporaries), and so on. It's a shame they didn't get to finish the series thanks to Bernie Stolar and his bullshit.

Where can I watch the Sega CD Spectacular? I tried to watch it on Youtube a few times but it kept getting deleted. Sorry for the inconvenience on that; we've been having problems with IP trolls making content claims on that video each of the three times I've uploaded it. As soon as the Strider Longplay is finished I'll be making another attempt to get it on Youtube. We're looking into alternatives as well, because this is beyond ridiculous.

That sucks, maybe you could upload it to a different streaming site like Vimeo or something. I really enjoyed the 32X video and am looking forward to this one.

YouTube's "shoot first and never ask questions ever" approach to content claims is unbelievably stupid.

There's nothing even illegal about the Sega CD stream. Everything we're doing is fair use, but Youtube would rather play it safe than bother looking at the video to see if it violates copyright or not.

Yeah, we're working on alternate hosting, so hopefully that'll be soon. It's a lot of good fun, but seems to be cursed, hah. Like Snarboo said it's all fair use - we're not getting ad revenue out of this or anything; it's kind of bullshit that someone else can (whether they have a valid claim or not). The most recent thing was over the Power Rangers game; apparently a representative for Saban ordered that it be blocked, so I took it down. The fact that these crawlers can recognize badly-compressed footage from a TV show is kind of scary. I like your avatar, btw!

I've heard that works sometimes.

How big is the video stream file? Maybe you could just host the video on RapidShare or one of those site or even torrent it. People would have to download it instead of stream it but it's better than nothing. Thanks for the avatar praise Mr. Joestar.

Sorry for the delayed response; the Sega CD "edited" video is being processed right now on Youtube, should be up soon. As for an alternate download, we're working on that right now - as soon as things get ironed out we'll let y'all know!
