The podcast is now available! Grab it here! We're going to be doing something a bit different for this month. The fantastic fanpatch of Game Center CX2/Retro Game Challenge 2 has been released at the beginning of June, and it would definitely be worth looking at this anthology of pastiches. I was always disappointed that we never got the game officially, but as they always say, better late than never. (Speaking of which, sorry for the delay; we're a bit wadded up editing podcasts that have yet to process.) Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou 2 (NDS)PRO TIPPZ:Previous 3 GC9X Threads:

I'm somewhat interested in playing this, but I'm not really seeing a viable legal means of doing so

I'm somewhat interested in playing this, but I'm not really seeing a viable legal means of doing so Question - do you have a problem with using an emulator if you own the actual game? I can lend you my copy temporarily if it'd ease your conscience - we'd hate to lose out on your input (or you being able to play the game) on this one!

I have no problem with emulators, it's just getting the game to the emulator that's usually the problem. Most games I emulate I have actually copied from my own carts, but I don't mind bending the rules if I don't have a means of doing so (e.g. SNES SA-1 games).
That said, DS emulation just sounds weird to me. Squeezing a vertical aspect ratio onto a typically widescreen display? Emulating touchscreen with the mouse? The latter point isn't likely a concern for this game, but it's still not the most ideal system to play in another format.
It is very kind of you to offer sending your copy, but I don't know if it's worth shipping the game across the US/Canada border twice for one month's GC9x. I've got plenty of games to play, and will enjoy joining in next month.

If you played the first Retro Game Challenge, I think the first thing you'll notice here is that the sequel's challenges are WAY easier. Easy to the point of being unfun. The games themselves, however, are really good and a lot of fun in their own right.

Oddly this challenge is actually getting me back into the first game -- I never did actually beat all the games, and still have to get to the ending on Guadia Quest (which I may as well do legitimately rather than with the skip) and Haggleman 3 (that third stage is a doozy).

Yeah, one of the only things I don't like about RGC2 is that the vast majority of the "challenges" are really easy, over too quickly, and are generally less of a fun activity and more of an annoying barrier you have to get through before you can really start playing the games. Fortunately, the library of games is fantastic and it's so totally worth suffering a bit of tedium to get to the good stuff. My favorite games are probably the shmup whose name I can never bloody remember, and Wiz-Man, which ended up being way more fun than I was expecting from an unassuming maze game.

I may have said it at one point on a Skype chat, but while RGC2 has better games (GunDuel 4eva), it's not as exciting challenge-wise as the original. I'm glad they put the Daily Challenges, though, that's pretty cool.

I was thinking that the hosts, at least, should play RGC1 as well after they dispatch the sequel's challenges.
Anyway, I just hit 6750 points in the daily challenges. They're getting slightly tougher, but not by much.
The only game in Story mode that I haven't finished is the Detective Kacho thing.

I think the most difficult daily challenge I've encountered so far is to get two warps in Cosmic Gate. Mostly just because even in the first RGC I wasn't a huge fan of Cosmic Gate. I don't have the enemy swarm patterns memorized at all, and in most stages you have a very small window in which to react and hit the flashing ship that activates the warp.

I can't find my DS flashcart anywhere, so I might end up just playing my physical copy in moonspeak. I'm paranoid to download the emulator, since it seems to just be hosted on Sourceforge, which is like a spyware clearinghouse bonanza. For those of you not on Twitter, here's what the Japanese packaging and such looks like: BTW, does anyone know, did the game come with an Arino name card? It was in the used copy I bought, so I was wondering about that.

I actually did that one yesterday, didn't have much trouble with it. Took me two tries or so to get it right, but I still did it.

I'm paranoid because I'd installed camstudio to do some video captures, and for whatever reason it didn't catch the adware inside the installer/that was extracted (without telling me so). I'll give my living room another look-through, I guess. I need to play the Edgeworth 2 game as well!
