Cool. Shadow of Chernobyl is practically my favorite PC-exclusive of all-time. The ZRP mod is highly recommended by the way.

Nice to finally see these games here! Also nice to see Firestarter mentioned, even as a brief blurb. I had intended to write an article about it at some point, but I only managed to take screenshots of the first 3 hubs before scrapping it.

Hmm, though it's pleasing to see Stalker have a place here, this article as a whole is spotty. I feel it doesn't adequately explain the overarching story of any of the games. COPs plot is barely touched on. There is no mention at all of Lost Alpha which, frankly, deserves a page of its own. Some Q&A with Dezowave regarding the development would be pertinent. They, more than any other modder, were attempting to create something approximating real Stalker as GSC envisioned it prior to THQs meddling. It would fit well in this article.

Actually, the author originally had a brief write-up on Lost Alpha, but the article was actually completed several months ago, and by the time it was ready to post, the info was outdated and he requested that it be removed. He wanted to add it in later when he got more time to flesh it out, so more elaboration will be forthcoming.

I would also like to recommend the tiny "Weather Overhaul" mod if you're playing the game vanilla, it makes the nights properly dark. Pripyat is really tense to explore with it. Here's the link.

Hoo boy. I got this on release date. The translation made things very confusing, as well as the backpacks/stashes of rival stalkers were never where the game said they were. Turned out that was a bug, which was patched after I finished the game. Later on, when you're approaching the Chernobyl power plant, the game turns in outright quicksave HELL, I had to repeatedly replay this part because I had quicksaved in an unwinnable situation. Also, fuck the guy who decided to place the only suit capable of blocking the radiation nearly halfway through the area where you need it most. Still, the theme, atmosphere and overall design is excellent.

I didn't go into detail on the story because a) It would spoil allot of it especially with the nature of sequels etc and b) I didn't want to have a huge dump of story exposition clogging up the article. As to Lost Alpha, as Discoalucard has said I had a bit of a preview/prediction thing in there but it became outdated once the game was leaked/released. I hope to write a follow up on Lost Alpha but spoilers: it kinda sucked. Apparently the devs are releasing some kind of sdk which would be great but yeah, they haven't really fixed anything major since it came out 5 months ago (AI is completely broken). Anyway hope you guys enjoyed!

Thanks for your contribution! I liked the article. You're also completely honest about "Complete"-mods which ruin the games in my opinion. However, I do make use of some of it's weapon textures (gamedata/textures/wpn/)... One of the things I like the most, is that you can combine and adjust so many things with mods...the variation is quite endless... EDIT: I just added the Helicopter Hunter mod by the way, which allows you to shoot down helicopters... lol I got also installed: STALKER Shaders MAXUI & HUD Overhaul (partly) And, I adjusted the game's starting time with the ZRP mod. Entering the bandit camp / carpark at night is awesome, especially with the aforementioned "weather overhaul" mod.

Thanks for the advice! I installed the unofficial 1.0008b patch today, which has a "fov" console command. Game runs a lot smoother, but it doesn't have a working vsync unfortunately (unlike the latest official patch)... And, I just added a fix for the "white eyed monsters" problem with render mode 2. Here's the link: Monsters R2 fix 1.0

I am currently trying out Autumn Aurora 2.05 (installed it manually), and it looks and plays great... That rainbow you see in the background is from the Dynamic Shaders 1.2 mod

Another day, another play, another post... Today I would like to recommend the Photo Realistic Zone 2, which is probably my most-favorite mod at the moment. All the in-game textures are hugely improved, to the point that it feels like the final version of the original game. Playing the game vanilla is for me the way to go, but the low quality of the foliage of the game annoyed me because they stood out like a sore thumb. Trees now look like trees, bushes like bushes, grass like grass and rain like rain... Combined with ENB + SweetFX, Dynamic Shaders 1.2:

This something to look forward to: the English translation of Oblivion Lost Remake 2.5. I have installed the (Russian), stand-alone version of the game, which itself is a version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as envisioned by the developers during the 2002-2004 era. The game runs on a modified 1.0006 version of the X-Ray Engine. It looks amazing, and conceptually it's actually better than the released game (Shadow of Chernobyl). The stand-alone version requires 13 GB HD space. I'll upload some screens later. Thread on GSC Game World forumHere's some screens made by the people involved. reddit thread
