I think this is kind of a blegh teaser, but I'm looking forward to Revelations 2. I hope it builds on the good aspects of Revelations (mostly the elements taken from the classic Resident Evil games) and ditches the bad aspects of Revelations (mostly the elements taken from the new games). Then again, this is Capcom, so I'll wait until more impressions come in first.

Kinda odd that the first Revelations started as a handheld and Nintendo exclusive, while this sequel is ditching them both. I guess this is another transitional game before the next major RE release, like Operation Raccoon City (god, that game sucked) was for 6. Or maybe Capcom can't even afford another main series numbered RE until someone buys them out, and we'll just get these minimal budget spin-offs until then. There are rumors of them getting Microsoft moneyhats to make RE7 an Xbox One exclusive, though.
I don't have much faith in its ability to rise above its handheld roots. Revelations 1 was impressive as a 3DS game, but felt like a throwaway cash-in when it was upscaled and ported to consoles. They'd have to really commit to their claims of taking the series back to its classic style for me to care about this one. I don't know why Rev 1 was so widely hailed as a "throwback," when it was just RE6 with fewer QTEs, less enemies, slower pacing and more constricted levels.

I actually really loved Operation: Raccoon City and will never understood why it received so much hate. Not ready to get excited about Revelations 2 until we see some actual gameplay, though.

I don't know why Rev 1 was so widely hailed as a "throwback," when it was just RE6 with fewer QTEs, less enemies, slower pacing and more constricted levels. I guess that was mostly because Revelations at least tried to bring back some of the horror vibe that RE5 had largely abandoned.

Sorry, mind deleting those? Proboards was acting up and reported an error, but apparently posted my message nonetheless. You might be able to delete them yourself; I know I'm able to delete this thread by clicking on the gear icon to the top right of my OP; maybe the same option can be there for you? Anyways, I've only played a few hours of 6, but I think Revelations is a million times better than it. Not so much story-wise, since Revelations' story is still ridiculously terrible, but at least the gameplay I found engaging. I actually felt pretty tense, and afraid to continue on at times, which is something I haven't felt with Resident Evil for so long. If only the developers didn't feel the need to constantly cut away from Jill's journey through the Zenobia; those constant cuts to other characters in the story really hurt the game's atmosphere and tension quite a bit.

Thanks: the option was there, but somehow my eye skipped over it when I looked for it the first time.

Never could finish Revelations on the 3DS. It started well, then progressively transformed into a bad shooter with enemies that didn't react to ballistic weapons impacts; so the combat in this game is what made me give up. Mercenaries 3D is actually much more fun to play. There is nothong less exciting than shooting a monster that doesn't even flinch when shotgunned in the stomach.
That said, revelations trumps RE 6, which is a complete disaster, gameplay-wise.
And I'm done with RE. 4 was fantastic, five was uber-mediocre, and 6 is a complete unlikable, unfun, awful to play POS. Sayonara Capcom. You died when Shinji Mikami left, and it's game over soon.

I disliked RE6 at first, but once clearing it I ended up liking it somewhat. In Mercenaries, where the gameplay elements are laid bare, I think it’s solid enough once you get the hang of it. Just forget using covers.

So...is the RE2 remake still a thing or were people mistaking Revelations 2 for that?

I'm thinking the light gun games are about as close as we're going to get to that. Damn shame, as those older entries could really stand to receive a redesign along the lines of REmake.

There is nothong less exciting than shooting a monster that doesn't even flinch when shotgunned in the stomach. I'm usually bothered by this too, it makes you feel weak and ineffective. However I didn't really notice it all that much here. You know what highly revered game suffers very much from this, to the point where I can't enjoy it anymore? Half-Life. You shoot a marine in the face with a shotgun at fucking point blank range and he doesn't even blink, happily continuing to fire back at you. There's a few blood drops visible, sure, but it still requires way too much suspense of disbelief and makes combat tedious and unrewarding. You know what game got this absolutely right? Doom. In fact, it's even a gameplay feature. Anybody who's been stuck in a small room with an Arch-Vile or Cyberdemon with anything less than a BFG will know what I'm talking about. On-topic: I liked Revelations a lot on the 3DS, and I tend to not like Resident Evil games very much. I'm sad to see they're ignoring that platform now.

That's THE thing I concede to COD: shooting is satisfying as hell, because of the ragdoll effects or scripted death animation. I don't get how a game designer can forget to implement physical reactions from your target. COD delivers like hell on this front, and at 60 fps, it is, ok, pretty fun for one or two games. Resident Evil 4 had uber-satisfying reactions from the Ganados. Virtua Cop got this right from the start. When it's not there, you feel like you're shooting blanks. Gears of war's enemies are like that; bullet sponges that leak black blood but otherwise don't really react strongly to your Lancer. And that is a strange choice. (You get used to it, though; I actually like Gears 3 a lot. Superb, colorful world to fight in. )

I never played the sequels, but I honestly had no idea in the first Gears of War that holding down the squad command button caused the screen to turn black & white, until probably the last few hours of my first playthrough. There is so little color in general there.
