I've lost a clone SNES/FC/NES console due to Brazil's shitty electricity distribution system (bigger cities have 110V sockets while smaller ones/rural areas get 220V).
I bought it on my hometown (a state capital) along with Super Mario World and it worked perfectly fine, but then I had to go to my uncle's farm with my family. My younger brother was completely obsessed with it, too, so when we got there he immediately plugged it on a 220V socket. Shit's circuits went burst, making me lose both the console itself and the Super Mario World cart, which had its board fried. It turns out the thing had a 110/220 switch, but it was waaaaaay too hidden in its shell.
Sure, it was a clone console, but it was a quality one and the first retro console I ever owned (this happened in 2010). Not only that, finding an original NES in Brazil is IMPOSSIBLY hard, since it wasn't officially distributed here. Everyone grew up with SEGA consoles or NES clones until the late 90's, whence Sony became king with the N64 (which I own) following right behind.

I accidentally sat on my brother's issue of Wetworks (the Whilce Portacio series) and it angered him so much, he wouldn't talk to me for days. I'd say the termites did you a favor by eating Fight Club. That was one of the few instances I've seen where the movie was not just better than the book, it improved upon the source material in nearly every way. Nah, I really liked the book. I was very into Palahniuk's gonzo narration style, and while that eventually got old in his later works, it was highly entertaining with his earlier works such as Invisible Monsters and Survivors.

The book might be fine on its own, but the movie improves upon it so much. The scene where they crash the car is a perfect example. In the book, it's just some random member of Fight Club who's explaining the logic of the group to the narrator. The movie sensibly changes this to Tyler himself. The narrator might not realize that he's Tyler at that point in the story, but everyone else in the organization sure as hell would. They wouldn't have to explain anything to him. They all worshiped him as a god.

Yeah, but again, I don't see why I should disregard the book just because the movie was great when I found it to be wholly enjoyable on its own merts too.
Um we're talking about things we lost in a fire or similar disasters, and not judging the things we lost in it, right?

Feel free to make fun of the Tomb Raider comics I lost in that flood. The stories weren't very interesting, but I liked the art.

My old Game Boy collection got stolen (except my Pokemon ones) during high school after a bomb was detected while I was anxious to leave my book bag in a locker with a lock on it and decided to use a locker without a lock to make a quick getaway. Dumb idea. But I was able to get the N64 CD holder back with CDs in it. It takes a special kind of asshole to steal a gamboy during a bomb scare.
