I'll send you a cross section of an AIM Convo that explains this post
StarDuck37: yeah well the mere fact that you don't like mario 64 StarDuck37: makes you a moron bemanisuperstar: give me a controller that works to play it on StarDuck37: the controller was basically BUILT for Mario 64 bemanisuperstar: A game is only as good as the controller you play it on bemanisuperstar: and the N64 is the worst controller ever made StarDuck37: the n64 controller was built with games like mario 64 and zelda oot specifically in mind StarDuck37: you're comparing the n64 controller to traditional controllers StarDuck37: and on that basis you say it's bad StarDuck37: and it's funny bemanisuperstar: it's bad ont he basis it's designed like crap StarDuck37: how millions of gamers StarDuck37: have experienced true gaming bliss StarDuck37: by collection all 120 stars in mario 64 bemanisuperstar: ask around I know i'm not the only one StarDuck37: without complaints StarDuck37: about the controller StarDuck37: for playing the first party nintendo made games bemanisuperstar: well I'll ask an unbiased group StarDuck37: the n64 controller is flawless
Am I alone? Am I the only human being on Earth that hates the N64 Controller? That find that the frequently broken Analogs sticks render it's games unplayable? A controller that needs instrustions on how to play it.

Personally I wouldn't have posted an AIM conversation like that. The arguement seems to me to be between a fanboy and a guy who thinks the controller is crap for no real reason.
I use to think it was stupid and yeah the analogue stick is still a little annoying when you're wanted to run in a direction other then the ones it wants you to move into. Yes it's true Mario Party slaughters your controller as well but I don't think the layouts bad. Infact I think it's completly and totally fine if they game you're playing uses it right and you hold it in the middle with a finger on the Z trigger and a hand on the right hand side.
I wouldn't call it a bad controller espcially since it fits in your hands quite nicely not like some certain ridiculous box controllers of old.

I wouldn't call it bad. You can't blame Nintendo either, they were trying so many new things with that controller that I'm amazed it was even confortable... that and the fact that the Z button is the best placed button EVER.

I actually really liked that controller. The analog stick was so tight, so it was really accurate. It really was built specifically for Mario 64, and Mario 64 doesn't really play on any other controller as well (imo).
I remember when Sony came out with the first Dual Shock... I got it for Gran Turismo. I was pretty shocked at how loose the stick was... seemed almost useless it was so inexact.

Ironically when my DuelShock 1 broke it wasn't the pads it was the O button I think.

My PS1/PS2 controllers have always run well, though I did have one PS2 controller that stopped working (though that was probably because a friend kept dropping it on the floor). I just don't like how cheap the stock PS2 pads feel. They are made of the worst quality plastic I've ever seen on a controller other than some knockoff Hong Kong bootleg thing. I love the 360 controller though... nice and solid and built so well. I didn't care much for the Gamecube controller, though it's alright.

I love both n64's and the Dreamcast's controllers, and am somewhat indifferent thowards PS2's. I've gotten used to it, but bleh... I prefer my Street Fighter 25th anniversary controller whenever I am able to use it. In my opinion, the second batch of the Sega Saturn controller is the most perfect one ever made. Fitting then that I've never owned a Saturn -_-

Yeah, I didn't like the DC controller either... it did feel really cheap, and there wasn't a single good feature about it. One analog stick? Awful triggers? That stupid cord?

The N64 controller was certainly innovative (a set of buttons designed chiefly for camera control, the analog stick, etc) but it really sucks more often than not. Mario 64 and Zelda don't feel natural without it, I'll admit, but when it comes to everything else, give me a PS2 or XBox Type S controller any day.
As for the DC controller: yeah, I hate that thing with a passion. It's no so much the features that it lacks (Sega tried making their games simpler by cutting back the number of buttons), as it is the features that it supports but does poorly at. Let me run down the list here...
- "Loose" analog stick that has problems going straight. Even a brand new DC controller feels like the stick is going to pop right out sometimes. - Stiff buttons. The letters etched into the buttons start to screw with my thumbs after a while, especially in games that require me to hold the buttons for a long time (Rez), or button-mash (Power Stone and Ikaruga). - Dumb controller pad. It's just a little small and awkward to use. - The triggers. Too loose, and when I push them down all the way (or if I'm button-mashing them like is required with games like Jet Grind Radio) it feels like I'm going to damage the controller. - Hand grips. My middle fingers don't really feel comfortable unless I can wrap them around something - the DC controller doesn't allow this, instead greeting my fingers with a solid wall. The VMU area doesn't help much either...

I never held one but if you slap a 2nd analog stick on the Saturn Nights Pad that'd be a damn good controller.
Anyways I asked this above but answers were comming before it was noticed so I ask again
Does the XBOX 360 wireless controller come with a Battery Pack or not?

I don't entirely agree with the "only as good as the controller" bit. Fighting games are typically designed specifically for arcade controls, but many are still fun with a D-Pad. Right, now StarDuck's being a mindreader. Millions of people eat at McDonalds too, doesn't mean it's good. Honestly, I always thought the Nintendo 64 controller was pretty good. In fact I actually like it more than the Gamecube controllers (which in my opinion are awful, especially for 2D games).

I don't really like the N64 controller, but I can't really justifiy it very well. I think its mostly b/c I didn't own an N64 until 2002 or something, so I never really got to put 100+ hours into mario64 and zelda and actually get used to the damn thing. It just doesn't feel right...at all.
