Seems like Nintendo is doing very well with their Wii... I went around this morning to a few shops (Walmart, Target, Circuit City, EB, FYE- most were in the same plaza) and everyone appears to be sold out. One Target got 51 (!) systems and sold out immediately. From what I am reading online this seems to be the case all over the country. So it's possible Nintendo has already sold their entire 2 million unit stock, give or take a few here and there.

I think a reason they are doing good is because Zelda is a launch title and the Wii is something new. I really want one but I probaly wont untill 2007, till then I'll just have to get Zelda TP for GCN.

So even without the hype and buying news time on Networks the Wii is outselling PS3
which is a natch.

Well... I'm hoping for one for Christmas. On the plus side, glad to see it prospering... on the bad, I sure hope there's enough left for me to get one! Time for another "Sotenga-patented Common Sense Dummy Question": Nintendo will have in another stock of Wiis in December, right?

I just hope companies start making those RPGs now Namco announced a "Sword of Legendia" title, my guess it's based on the Tales of series with Wiimote/sword movements.

Here in Iceland, every Wii has been pre-ordered, and I'm actually waiting for the second December batch so I can order my own.

I need to wait until Tuesday to pick up my reserved one. I reserved it at home but I'm at college. No worries though, my friend works there and he is making sure it's nice and safe plus Gamestop has a 48 hour hold period anyway. The only problem though is that controllers are so hard to find. My friend said they didn't get any extra and hell if I'm going to play Wii Sports by myself. I might go on the hunt today for a controller and nunchuck.

I did see plenty of games and accessories available in the stores I checked. Both Targets I went to had anywhere from 6-10 copies of LoZ:TP available, as well as plenty of Dragonball Z (which are the two games I wanted). I was going to pick them up, but having them sitting there with no means to play them would annoy me.

When I went to pickup my preorder at Funcoland last night at midnight, there were at least 50 people waiting for the Best Buy next door to open at 7 AM. They had 84 units and I am sure they were sold out well before opening. It is too soon to tell, but I see this catching on with everyone. Nintendo will have a user base to work with.
Slightly OT, I just played Wii Sports and ExciteTruck with a friend for about 4 hours. The controls aren't perfect across all the sports, but they are damn fun and very engaging. You really do want to stand up for some of the games; especially Golf, Baseball and the truly excellent Bowling. ExciteTruck is way more fun and intuitive than I expected. Like using a NeGcon, but better. Played Zelda for a while last night and it is also pretty neat. The new controls work very well.
All the skeptics merely need to give the Wii a go. It is worth every cent. I personally feel that Nintendo has actually delivered on the launch hype. I can't wait for what they have in store in the future.

So it's possible Nintendo has already sold their entire 2 million unit stock, give or take a few here and there. I know quoting yourself is bad form, but I wanted to add more info on this point. I've been reading today that the 2 million number is the total number of systems Nintendo intends to launch in the US before the end of the year. Other times I am reading 4 million worldwide with an undertermined number in the US. At any rate, it seems as though Nintendo launched with 400,000 units this morning... which explains the trouble people have been having getting a system without camping/reserving. This is apparently 2-3 times the number of systems compared to the PS3 launch. I'm pretty certain as we get closer to the end of the year it will be a lot easier to just walk in and buy a Wii at the larger stores. Personally I'm going back and forth on it. I can tell you that if any of the stores I went to had the Wii this morning I would have definitely bought it, as drunk with hype as I was. And of course, as I failed each step of the way my desire for the Wii continued to grow exponentially. I actually considered for a moment buying one of the ridiculous bundles you can get at places. However, since I was unable to get a Wii I've had some time to think about it and maybe it's a good thing. I'd still like to wait until there are a few more games I want. I'm sure Zelda:TP is a fantastic game, but I haven't enjoyed a Zelda (or Zelda-like) game in quite a while, so I would be getting it only because it's the "must have" Wii launch game. I also wanted DBZ:BT2, but I have it on the PS2 already, and that's probably good enough. Regardless of the Red Steel reviews, that game still intrigues me, but it might be better to wait for it to go down in price so as to not have such high expectations. Is anyone else here wanting a Wii but also planning on waiting a bit for some more titles to come out?

I'm kinda waiting, but not for any new games to come out - playing Zelda and Trauma Center will be hopefully pretty cool. I'm waiting for more impressions and also to see if I can snag those 360s on Amazon on Thanksgiving day for $100.
Also, regarding game saves on the Wii, I know it's got internal memory like the Saturn, but can it also direct save to the compact flash cards? And, if you can save to card, can you take that to other Wiis and play the VC games there/resume save games there? If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.
