I find this absolutely insane. I was checking out top 10 video game lists from WatchMojo.com that are on youtube. One was on the top 10 video game urban legends and there's one that really silly. The so called Madden curse. It is said that whoever is the football player to appear on the cover of that years EA Madden NFL game will suffer the curse for the season where either they get an injury or have "bad performance." I guess sports fans are really superstitious.

The thing about the Madden curse, though, is that its occurrence is simple statistics. The player that gets picked for the Madden cover is usually at the peak of their career at the time, like maybe they've just set a new record touchdown a few games ago. They get a huge boost to fame by being on the cover, and they push even harder to set more records and play even better than before, which inevitably leads to a dropoff at the end as they either overdo it and injure themselves or wear themselves out and get benched while the rest of the team has to pick up the slack.

Yeah, but for a few years it really did happen. You could chalk it up to players having phenomenal years, becoming worthy of getting put on the Madden cover. Without looking, I think the year after Brett Favre was on the cover, he retired. After looking I'm wrong. It's when he left the Packers, and aside from one really solid year with the Vikings, he didn't do a whole lot and retired shortly afterwards. After a career of being balls to the walls amazing. There are a few other examples, but I don't remember them because they aren't Brett Favre or part of the Miami Dolphins. But, it's kind of weird how it keeps happening. Thank god though that Vick never got the cover. Oh and I've never typed out Favre before. That was kind of weird.

Thank god though that Vick never got the cover. Michael Vick? He was on the '04 edition. And I think one year he was a contender for the first-ever returning athlete. (double the curse!) And I see last year Adrian Peterson was on the PS4/Xbone cover. His legal troubles are MADDEN CURSE!

Lol, that reminds me of the Nutella Fluch in germany: Whenever nutella uses a "soccer/football"player in their ads, he is going to deliver a bad performance.

Yeah, the Madden Curse is simple statistics than anything. Most of the cover athletes are coming off either a championship win or a record season of individual performance. It's more Super Bowl Hangover or just coming back down to Earth than anything because it's extremely hard to keep up that sort of performance in today's NFL.
You want to reverse the Madden Curse? Put a guy on there with potential that hasn't entered their prime yet. Someone like Andrew Luck, Jadaveon Clowney, Odell Beckham Jr., or Sammy Watkins. The sky's the limit with these guys.
