The most hilarious thing about this game to me will always be how instead of having different colored clothing, player two inexplicably has blue skin.

So, apparently all Video System games are within the same canon, kind of like what SNK and Raizing did.

What a beautifully 1990 game this is. Amazing.

Honestly this is up there as one of my favourite Cabal types. The complete insanity of the stages enemies can't be under exaggerated, the constant motion means there's lots of environments to grenade, the bosses are wild, the loopy engrish between stages and the dreamlogic storyline. Plus Captain Waffle struts like a boss the whole time.
From a design perspective it actually has some really interesting stuff going on with the enemy variety - lots of enemies shoot varying types of projectiles or attempt to physically attack you at close range and the boss variety is rather nice. Really it's only by virtue of Riot being completely and totally insane that Spinal Breakers isn't THE craziest Cabal type. It's more interesting than Nam 1975 in any event. The biggest downside is the special weapons aren't all that great since having to mash the fire button is kind of worse.

I just now noticed that Waffle has the V-System logo on his backpack!
As the article states, too bad that this shooter genre is represented by so few games... I always enjoyed them a lot, especially Blood Bros at the arcade!
