www.hardcoregaming101.net/killer7/killer7.htmGoichi Suda's breakthrough and by all accounts still his most effective mindfuck. I just added a metric fuckton of emulator screenshots to the article and noticed there was no thread for me to announce it, this article being ancient and all...

I read that article awhile back, it was good. My reading on the game is very different, though. Shinji Mikami of RE4 fame was on the project, and future SUDA projects really show how much Mikami's influence here made the gameplay of Killer7. There's a lot of focus on quick, tense shoot outs that are meant to depower and force the player in a vulnerable position, but still rewards skilled play. It reminds me of RE4 a lot, as movement was still very limited in that game and created a lot of fight or flight situations. I think Mikami and SUDA were trying something different here for the sake of mechanics matching the assassin theme.

If it wasnt for mikami, Killer7 could have been an interactive point and click similar to his previous works. Sincerely SUDA has never been good at making fun games (No More Heroes does what Oonechanbara already did for a budget price long ago), good thing his plots (at least before NMH) were so engaging. Problem is, his pre NMH games connect with eachother on small parts. Like the twin kids that appear on a cutscene in K7, they are from moonlight syndrome. Its like some questions end up being answered on other games. Also its been said that to understand K7 some degree of knowledge about politics is required, and I agree with that. Its too bad that K7syndrome never got its articles finished because it actually feels like a more down to ground understanding of the themes in K7 (unlike the plot analisys at gamefaqs which goes way over the top, but what do you expect from someone who made a faq overanalizung items from a resident evil game) in case anyone is interested, the site is archived archive.kontek.net/killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/link.htm

I always wanted to go back and revise this a bit once Flower Sun and Rain was released in English...but I never really sat down and played it. Emulator shots look great though!

This game messed up my buddy. But, then again it was his like first introduction to mind fuck. To this day he's terrified of it.

I used to think Killer7 was a mind fuck, then I played Flower Sun and Rain.
Granted, that game makes actual sense in the end.

It does make some sense at the end, it just leaves some things open ended.
The trailers using alpha footage were a big deal, specially one which shows Sundance Shot, a character from the silver case which was never included in the final version of K7.

Just as well, as his presence would make ZERO sense. He's already dead in Flower Sun and Rain, and his existence is significantly different than the Killer7's.

Boy, thanks for reminding me that it wont be too much longer till it's been a decade since I played Killer 7, I've been meaning to replay it for ages but I don't currently own a copy due to only renting it back in the day.
