So, i picked up Trauma Center:Second Opinion at GS a week ago, not expecting much. But man, was i wrong. The game is surprisingly deep and fun, and i did not expect the whole "Visual Novel" aspect, which i ate up.
for those of you not familiar, it's a game where (you guessed it) you play as a Doctor who operates on people. other stuff happens too, but i don't want to spoil it.
anyways, i have some questions about the series. Are the DS games better than the Wii ones? and, how good is Trauma Team? i've heard a lot of mixed stuff about it.
Thanks!

Trauma Team is amazing; it basically feels like a bunch of games in one, from the way the different characters have wildly different play styles. My favorite to play is probably Gabriel, since his Diagnostician segments take a lot after a typical episode of House, M.D., just with a robot assistant (with whom he gets along swimmingly).

I haven't played any of them, but I picked up Trauma Team for the Wii because it looked like it had the most story and production values of them all. Since there are so many of them, I figured I just play the best one. One of these days I'll play it. So 6 Hours 6 Doctors 6 Patients

I have Second Opinion but it's been sitting on a shelf for 5-6 years. I should play it someday. Something tells me I would prefer a game like this on my DS though... I'd like a complete collection on the 3DS or something and then just dig in, literally.

Love this series. Second Opinion is a remake of the first DS game, it has a bit of early installment weirdness to it like the character design, lack of difficulty settings and I think a tool or two is controlled differently. Second Opinion has since dictated the series in presentation and refinements. The second DS game is a true sequel that finishes Derek Stiles's story and it is my personal fav of the series.
New Blood introduces co-op and separate doctor healing touches, but I personally found some operations incredibly hard because I think they encouraged to play with a friend.
Trauma Team does have a mix of different gameplay styles. Surgery and First response will play like the original gameplay. Orthopedics involves a lot of "tracing" with the laser cutter, it is fun but wears thin compared to other operations. Endoscopy is the one that drives people nuts, you have to pull the wiimote a lot. It's kinda fun though it reminds me of a dungeon crawler with surgury tools. lol Forensics and Diagnosis are point and click adventuring, former has some neat cases actually. If you like Ace Attorney you will eat it up. I cannot say there is anything wrong with Trauma Team. It has "sillier" stuff happening and the pacing between point and click vs surgery is off. Otherwise it is worth playing.

weasel Really? i've seen it at GS a lot, so i'll have to pick it up! ZenithianHero The second one has Stiles in it? Sweet! i'm really digging his character arc. is New Blood (Wii game) a remake of Under the Knife 2? I love the Phoenix Wright series (i only own the first on IOS though) and always thought this series had many similarities. Thanks a lot for answering, i'll make sure to get it soon.

New Blood is not a remake and stars a new cast.

I don't hear much about these games anymore, but there seemed to be a lot of buzz about them back when the DS first came out. I recall reading that some of the missions (something about removing parasites?) can get very frustrating.

I haven't played any of them, but I picked up Trauma Team for the Wii because Which one? There are two on the Wii. I love the series and I'd say Trauma Team is my favorite. Haven't tried TC 2 yet, though. The series is that good, it's even worth playing both the original TC on DS and its remake Second Opinion as Atlus crammed in enough tweaks and new stages to make it all fresh again. Controls also work wonderful both on DS and Wii and make the best use of both systems' input methods. Does anybody if any of the clones on DS are anything near as good as the original series?

There are three actually, but Trauma Team is just one. You can't confuse it with the others.

I've been a big fan of the series since right when TC:UtK 1 came out. Somehow I've still never picked up Trauma Team, though I've played through both UtKs and New Blood. It's definitely an underappreciated series, and I'm not quite sure why.
As a fan of Etrian Odyssey as well I'm sad to see the TC references have gone to the wayside.

I recall reading that some of the missions (something about removing parasites?) can get very frustrating. Yeah the very late ones can be a pain. These missions tend to make you think fast, as well as apply strategies that are uncommon elsewhere because of how unique of a problem they are for surgery. Much of Trauma Center can be won by remembering the steps and keep calm. Does anybody if any of the clones on DS are anything near as good as the original series? Lifesigns? I keep forgetting it got localized, but I should buy it sometime to see how it fares.

ZenithianHero Thanks for the info. =) I really wish the series get's another entry for the Wii U (or 3DS). I think that the tablet would work amazingly with this type of game. Also, the 3D effect could be a cool feature to have in a TC game. just, please, don't force it to be Gyroscope. i honestly think that would ruin it.

Much of Trauma Center can be won by remembering the steps and keep calm. I think the main problem with the difficulty is that the faster you have to work, the more the controls and the user interface become a hindrance. Like for example the fluid drain tool really should've had a shorter swipe to work because if you're forced to use it at the top of the top of the screen that's a few precious seconds wasted. I haven't played the Wii games but I can't imagine the Wiimote controls being precise enough to be functional.

Love the series, hate the controls. The touch interface on DS, and the waggle on the Wii will cause more problems for you than anything else. It's a real shame, too, because the unique interfaces are one of the main selling points for the franchise.
