ITS SO MUCH HARDER
I'm impressed at how much is added/changed though. It's more than just a new playable character from what I've played so far. It's great.
AND ITS FREE

Wow, finally got around to try the update. First, it is really awesome and weird that it is free. I mean, it is somehow like a new game....... I wouldn't call it harder per se, it just takes some time to get used to the way the new character plays, which gives a really different feel and flow to the overall game. Really cool.

The Treasure Trove update is out now, including the Spectre of Torment campaign, wider release for the previous Wii U Amiibo-exclusive co-op mode, and a whole whack of other stuff. This also consolidates the DLC and updates into the main game ("Shovel Knight Treasure Trove"), at an increased price for new users, but anyone who previously owned Shovel Knight gets all of it for free.

Specter Knight's campaign is way harder that the others. Not only all stages were redesigned, the bosses are also much more aggressive.
One of his cloaks gives him a Green Goblin palette, which gets funny given he can slide on rails with his scythe, Sonic style.
