I'm looking for recommendations for online multiplayer games that are free on PC. Stuff I can play with two of my friends. Could be either Free-to-play or freeware. If its MMO's preferably something, uh, interesting rather than your generic DND stuff. We dont have any real genre preference, we tend to play lot of things as long as they're fun to play or that we can dick around in it.

If you like third-person action games with a flair for stunts, guns and melee combat combined, look up Warframe. Be aware that, without spending money, progress may be a bit on the slow side towards unlocking new frames (which are essentially entirely new player characters), but you won't lag behind too badly if you aren't focusing on that.

Look up Realm of the Mad God, it's an MMO that mixes RPG with top down shoot'em up. You move around a large map and blast enemies to death while colleccting stuff and gaining experience, with a cap of twenty. If you die, you start over with a new character on your account. The cool thing is that the game is super fast moving, and all players on a map (which is a lot of players) take part in a huge raid on the Mad God's palace when one team manages to take down a certain boss. The screen shakes and shit gets nuts with huge enemies and a raid number in the hundreds or so.

You can't go wrong with League of Legends, I guess.
Unless you want to just play with the three of you and no one else?

It'd help if you said the style of MMO you want. Did u want an MMORPG for example? Arena Shooter? 3rd Person Action? Beat 'em Up? Fishing game? Kart Racer? Gold Game (Oh yes...MMOs exist of those last few) Also, you could check out mmogrinder.net It's a show where a guy reviews free to play MMOs, it could help you decide and it's not just MMORPGs he reviews.

You can't go wrong with League of Legends, I guess. Unless you want to just play with the three of you and no one else? Yeah, just the 3 of us. MMO's are okay because we can still work together and generally ignore the rest of the players. None of us are fans of DOTA or LOL or any of those type of games. I've tried Warframe couple of times, but the gameplay didn't really click for me. Could be just the company though. It'd help if you said the style of MMO you want. Did u want an MMORPG for example? Arena Shooter? 3rd Person Action? Beat 'em Up? Fishing game? Kart Racer? Gold Game (Oh yes...MMOs exist of those last few). Everything except RPG's sound good. None of us are in this to start any long-term commitment, we just want to grab a game, go have fun and perhaps laugh at its expense. Personally I'm more interested in trying out something completely different. Like if I'd have to pick up LOTRO or a fishing MMO, I'd go for the latter.

I believe you have to buy membership if you want to play with friends or something like that.

Seconding Warframe. It supports up to four player parties, it has tons of content right now with more on the way, and is a really fast, run & gun space ninja extravaganza with several game types. I dare say it might just be the best F2P out there if you're looking for an action game.

Spiral Knights - a crazy mashup of an old-school Zelda, a shmup, a dungeon crawler and a rougelike with some crazy equipment and characters and little-to-no paywalls. Also, it has a PvP mode inspired by Bomberman!

Tera Online is the only mmorpg with a gameplay that don't make me puke.

I would've recommended Pangya if it wasn't a super-niche genre (golf) and didn't suffer from large amounts of stereotypical MMO bullshit ("What do you mean he has golden clubs that give him hole-in-ones instantaneously? I can only make a ball go, like, 50 meters tops!")
Spiral Knights is really good, though. It's an RPG, sure, but the setting and artwork is interesting, it's relatively simple to get into, and the gameplay is different enough to at least warrant some quick research.
