Darkest Dungeon is coming out (in Early Access) next week. Excited yet?
If have to say Darkest Dungeon is giving me that tingly feeling. If this game is half as good as it looks and sounds, I'll be thrilled. They've even hired the growly voiced narrator to comment on your situation, Bastion-style. Some features:
- Eldritch horror-style RPG where your characters can develop permanent mental issues? Yes! - A design philosophy where every skill/item is partly a tradeoff? Sure! - Camping as a central feature, where skills out of battle are as important as those in battle? Cool! - Combat where exploiting status weaknesses is very important? Yup! - A Leper character class? Finally, the skin-challenged have their place in gaming!

I can't tell if this is going to be shit or the shit. I like the artwork a lot though and I like games that try to take AD&D stuff and streamline it like Riviera and what this is trying to do. I don't know how down I am with the amount of position switching they seemed to have to do in the PAX footage to fight effectively. I think it would be better if characters could get a better variety of attacks and such to overcome where they are in the line. Like the berserker character being able to attack while third in line is cool, and so is the ranged potion man at the back. I think it's going to be boring if you have to kinda sorta put them in specific positions to cater to the archtypes of weak ranged person, strong melee person, while still having to micro manage it ever couple of turns. Pretty excited about this though, I love more morbid, menacing fantasy stuff like Thief and Demon's Souls so much.

Definitely looks like it could be a cool game. I'm waiting for the final version, but it's definitely on my radar.
The devs did well making a game that looks great on a budget, too. The stylistic use of single frame attack animations with zoom-in is a clever way to give attacks a dynamic, powerful feel without the need for lots of complex animation.

I've a very strong feeling I'll be ripping my hair out playing this game, but I'm excited anyway. I like it when they give you lots of options before the dungeon/battle start, so it'll likely make you rely more on strategy rather than grinding. Looking forward to seeing more from this game.

Looking forward, big time. While the game seems to largely focus on combat, the involvement of mental afflictions makes it extremely alluring.

I love that when one of your party members loses his shit he starts mouthing off on a regular basis, bringing the entire party's morale down. Guess you have to think twice before bringing in a liability.

Morale systems are something I've always wanted to see more of since I first saw a team member go berserk in the original XCOM as a kid.

I've been following this for a while now and backed the Kickstarter as soon as it opened up. I love the art style, and the morale system seems really neat. Looking forward to trying the early access in a few days. I also can't wait to get all of the backer awards whenever those eventually go out.

Ah, I remember you posting the trailer once before. I wasn't sold on it since I got the impression it may be a rogue-like which I just don't care for, but now that I see they're talking about an actual campaign and stuff (and seeing and hearing it in action, holy crap) I'm chomping at the bit. After Divinity I've been wanting more turned based western rpgs... which reminds me I need to quit dragging my feet and get started on Fallout.

As you might expect, I am a backer of the game. They sent Steam keys today to us cool people. Less cool people will have to wait four days for Early Acces, so no biggie.
Holy moly this game is not kidding around. Even the tutorial fight almost kicked my ass. After a few aborted attempts (starting supplies, they're very important), I completed my first mission with a Vestal, a Bounty Hunter and two Highwaymen.
My Vestal (healer) is the first to lose her shit and becomes "Abusive", thereby handing out reprimand at the same time as healing. She single-handedly wrecks the morale of the entire team with her smack talking. My main fighter, the Bounty Hunter, becomes "Hopeless" and prefers to mope instead of fight half the time. My two ranged dudes become "Masochistic" and start refusing the Vestal's treatment, because "the pain, it feels so good".
Somehow these clowns ended up all surviving their first mission. They're all messed up now, though, and I'm not sure I want to pay to treat their "issues".
Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. They warn you your heroes are expendable. Heck a few new ones show up for free after every run. They're grist for the mill, I guess, especially since I only have rookies.

This one sounds interesting. Have to keep my eye on it, maybe even pick it up if the Early Access works well enough.

Saw Jim Sterling's Early Access video for this and now I'm seriously hyped. This game has an AMAZING visual style, and I like the unique, streamlined way you traverse dungeons.

Not excited yet.
Once it's out of early access and the Vita release is getting close... then I'll be very excited.
