Sega to offer 300 staff voluntary retirement as it focuses on smartphone and PC online gamesWhile Sega hasn't exactly been the best company overall, I feel like they still did more good than Capcom, Konami and Square-Enix did together in a span of three years. In fact, to me, they were right there with Bandai Namco as the lesser of all evils (these guys have been rather benevolent lately with Tales localisations for the West). To see them pull a marketing strategy similar to Capcom's is bad news, but if by "PC online games" they mean ports like that of Valkyria Chronicles on Steam (but with stuff like Bayonetta, Yakuza or Vanquish instead), then maybe not all good that there was is yet lost.

No. I won't get upset again. I used all my rage with the Dreamcast. I am too old to rage. Now I'm just sad. Seeing SEGA become this is like losing a long-ill friend. Sad, sad, sad. I'll keep Sonic Generations and their 3DS 3D Classics as nice goodbyes. Sh5%t.
OPA-OPA forever. They'll go with Fantasy Zone 2. That's poetically sad.

And Atlus? What's gonna happen with Atlus?

probably nothing because atlus falls under the sega-sammy umbrella like sega
unlike sega tho atlus has persona which seems to be totally hot shit

I think it's going to be okay. I don't expect Sega to drag Atlus with them by the arm into the world of smartphones.

looks like sega's going out not with a bang, but with a sonic boom

I read that they had less than one million in cash on their own hands. I suppose this might explain why Sonic Boom was so super rushed.
Although I'm kinda puzzled - I'd thought a new Sonic game (done in-house) was being developed for a couple of years now?

The irony is almost painful.
But if there's one thing you can count on, it's for Sega's management to be woefully incompetent.

...And now I'm sad. Shoot. So many games, such creative Madness... they flew too close to the sun.

Sounds like Western publishing and Arcade not so much every section of Sega. I don't think it is going to be any more mobile than it already is really. We already have localizations to look forward to for example.
But with this news, I now have to read constant annoying talk of "sega should be bought my Nintendo/Sony etc" comments like other "doomed" companies I like.

Some are saying they're pulling out of console games development, but I'm not sure on that.
As much as I have grown to love sega over the past few years, this news isn't surprising in the slightest.

Some are saying they're pulling out of console games development, but I'm not sure on that. Nope. Sega Japan is only downsizing arcades and Sega West is purely publishing and relocation. Worst thing for us is digital only, but Sega have been already doing that.
