Some indie games use 2.5D too (sometimes because it's easier and cheaper than 2D drawings or pixel art). It'll probably never become popular as 2D, but can be great if done right - I'm playing Trine 2 and it's gorgeous.

I assumes there were heart containers or something I just never got it. The game has a tendency to give you one and only one shot to get to certain areas.
I still really liked it and enjoy the music and the overall bounciness. Only sticking point was the last level, that damn wind was seriously almost impossible to time.
Haven' played the sequel yet though I do want to.
