www.hardcoregaming101.net/journeyband/journey.htmIn 1973, former Santana manager Herbie Herbert decided to create a backup group for established artists in the Bay Area of California. Including such Santana Alumni as Neal Schon on lead guitar and Ross Valory on bass, the group eventually became a progressive rock jazz fusion outfit known as Journey. However, it was not until late 1977 when a man known as Steve Perry decided to join the band as their new lead vocalist. From there, they took off like the space vehicles on their album covers, releasing hit after hit and a zenith with the albums of E5C4P3 and Frontiers. Like many pop culture icons during the early 1980s, video games were inevitable, and two games - an Atari 2600 game and an arcade game - were made based on the band that never stopped believing.

I remembered the arcade because of the digitized faces.
I also recalled (but it's something that should be verifirled) that originally the game was conceived as giving the ability to paste your own face on a character, but that was scrapped because of the cost of the tech and some testers being dickheads in more ways than one.

Looks like some parts of the arcade one were made in MSPaint.

Looks like some parts of the arcade one were made in MSPaint. I was about to mention that. Heck, the whole game looks like one big ugly MSPaint drawing.

I hope the author means a game where you get to beat up the members of KISS, presumably playing as the members of Blue Oyster Cult or something. It could even be a run-and-gun where they use their lasers to take on the KISS army

Using the "sound sample" of Separate Ways on MAME is considerably superior to how they did it in 1983 since you're using an MP3 rip off a digitally remastered cd instead of a heavily stretched cassette tape inside the cabinet. Looks like some parts of the arcade one were made in MSPaint. I was about to mention that. Heck, the whole game looks like one big ugly MSPaint drawing. That was the Bally Midway "look" in the 80s. Incredibly high res sprites on insanely low res backgrounds. Kick, Tapper, Satan's Hollow, and Spy Hunter all look like Journey.

Would you say this counts?

Yeah as, as I mentioned earlier, the Midway MCR series was Bally Midway's main arcade board in the years before they merged with Williams Electronics. Then they switched to Z-Unit/T-Unit/etc.
