(plenty of Doom mods, actually, also Snarboo did you take a look at the canceled SonderKommando TC? So sad) Was that the one that took place in a concentration camp? If so, I can totally understand why it was cancelled. Yeah, bear in mind that what was done of it before it was canceled, got filtered off into what eventually got released as Operation Eisenfaust Origins, and the uniformed prisoners were changed into mutants instead. The author has stated clearly (and repeatedly) that there is no chance that the original version will be released. I do not blame him at all; given that he lives in Israel, that subject matter is way, way more taboo than it is for much of the world.

That's one more parallel Wolf 3D source hacks have with ROM hacks: they often push the boundaries of good taste. :p I didn't realize Eisenfaust: Origins was the end result of that hack, however! All the more reason to give it a play.

Yeah, imagine if a scene like this showed up in a Wolfenstein game, only with normal humans and red blood instead of grey skin and purple blood. I think even strong-stomached people would take pause. I think Castle Totenkopf SDL (video below) pushed the boundaries of graphic depictions (at least in Wolf3D mods) of the Nazis' atrocities far enough to prove its point - that the Nazis in the mod were not goofy moon-conquering goosesteppers, but sadistic, militarized bullies who institutionalized human suffering. That much said, there was some wacky Nazi science, too, but even THAT was pretty genuinely chilling---in one level you stumble into the aftermath of the Nazi mutants revolting and killing all the Nazis on that floor, and another level pits you against an unkillable abomination that the Nazis created but could not control, and in a rare moment of wisdom sealed away in a basement floor and tried to forget about. You weren't expected to win that level, just survive and get out. Those ambient screams kinda got to me more than I expected. It's my favorite Wolf3D mod. Large variety of weapons, lots of creepy ambience, some innovative moments of gameplay, and an aesthetic that combines the look of Wolfenstein games from Wolf3D all the way to the '09 Wolfenstein and its obsession with teal.

I almost wonder if you've played The New Order, yet... No, but I already have watched playthroughs (since it will be a while until I have a computer that can run TNO). I know what happens. It just kinda seems more surprising to me seeing screenshots that morbid in old Wolf3D pixels as opposed to modern-day razzle-dazzle engines. It's like looking at a child's drawing of something horrible they witnessed---the artwork is crude, but more than sufficient for an adult to pick up on the grim details. What I REALLY wasn't expecting from TNO was for Blazkowicz' previously-innocuously-Central-European-sounding last name to actually foreshadow one of the creepier moments in TNO.

Sadly since my office got broken into and my servers and work PC stolen I wasn't able to play anything else this month. Oh well, time to rock the new month!

D: My condolences, and here's hoping a police report leads to something!

When will be podcast recorded? I think it's on iTunes now. I'm looking forward to listening to it - I missed out because I was in the middle of a meltdown when it was recorded. As soon as we finish more of the move I wanted to do a follow-up with people involved during different eras of romhacking.

Minus Infinity seems insanely hard so far (beat Toad Man's level).

So I've been listening to the podcast and have two comments: 1) Secret of Mana supports the multi-tap by default and supports three-player play without any rom hacks. 2) One notable 'improvement' hack is Metroid Plus, which adds saves, automap and stackable beams to the original Metroid: www.metroid-database.com/news-post.php?id=747
