Did you have something personal going on with EGM2? Not exactly, but it became indirectly related to something weird that happened.

I wish Square would fire Nomura.
Nothing good came from him.. but the World ends with you.. except for the gameplay that is gimmicky and unwieldy.

...aaaaand the other shoe has officially dropped. Advent Children is PRECISELY the direction they need to NOT go with this thing. Crap on a crap cracker.

Brick-and-mortar copies will be shipped inside boxes secured with belts and zippers. And zippered belts.

Why, if you're remaking a beloved classic, would you change the battle system 'dramatically'? The battle system IS the game, it's an RPG for chrissake.

Shouldn't roleplaying be the game in an RPG?

The battle system in FF7 is the one thing that needs to change the most. The materia system is pretty pants. It might be open to letting you design your own characters but the abilities are all so boring that there's no need to and there's very few ways to exploit the system that made games like FF5, 6 and 8 fun. I'm playing through the new fan translation and the battle system is dire. Materia and the enemies you face are just boring and it only doesn't descend into Legend of Dragoon levels of hatefulness because the dungeons are short and the encounter rate low that it doesn't become annoying and ruin the pace. So I'm all for a more interesting take on the battle system. It's so simple and dull as is anything to add a bit more strategy would be welcome.
However Advent Children, anything influenced by Advent Children and people that actually liked Advent Children need to die in a fire.

Enemy Skill and some limit breaks are pretty broken. I personally don't enjoy overly broken systems like FF8's.
I guess the point of ATB is to hide the lack of depth in the FF battle systems.

Well, changing the ATB is pretty much changing how the entire game is played. Sure, there's things in RPGs besides that, preperation, customization, but I don't get how this makes sense as a remake.
Of course, we don't know the exact 'drastic' changes yet, and I'm hardly a FFVII expert, but still.

I'm thinking that the changes will be more cosmetic than anything else, but the battle system may be a lot quicker, and maybe they're going for ATB but something that looks more like an action RPG. No screen transitions before battles and maybe less menus. To be honest I'm thinking the battles will look like FF12 but not necessarily play exactly like that. Or they're building off FF13 for this one. I am not seeing them doing a full on FFXV/Kingdom Hearts battle system though.
I think a FFX style system would be alright, except having the battles take place in the actual environments this time, instead of on a seperate battle screen. It's much faster than a lot of the older FFs and changing members on the fly fives FFX a more strategic feel.

I think if they need to change anything, it would be to improve the pace of battles.

I know the main story beats of FFVII, but only played to Mount Corona. So as far as I'm concerned, I'm okay with the game making changes to combat, mainly because I'm going in fresh

I generally welcome rather big changes in remakes because what's the point buying a remake if it's the exact same game, but prettier? I can play the original if I want the same game all over again. Nah, bring on the changes!
HOWEVER (!) After playing the Castle of Illusion remake I have to say a remake shouldn't take too many liberties with the source material, or it'll end up a completely new game that just feels....alien. I was a huge fan of the original CoI and expected to feel at least a LITTLE nostalgic while playing the remake. I did not. At all.
So, make improvements and change stuff here and there, but keep the heart, soul and feel of the original. Ok thnx
