I'm surprised that there isn't a thread about this one here yet: Red Ash: The Indelible LegendLong story short, Inafune got sick of not being able to make Legends 3 and decided to make a spiritual successor of sorts. While I'm very excited with this announcement, I fear that this Kickstarter won't get the same amount of support the Mighty No. 9 one did, not after the controversial events that took place after that one. Oh, and there is also an anime version of it being Kickstarted by Studio 4ºC: Red Ash: MagicicadaMagicicada? That sounds like a subtitle for a new Madoka series/movie. Either way, I'll only be backing the game.

ONE KICKSTARTER AT A FUCKING TIME, INAFUNE.
Also, which controversial events? I knew there were the multiple Kickstarters after the initial one and a brouhaha between the Kickstarters' community manager and some of the backers/assorted hangers-on. Did I miss something?

Well, Mighty no. 9 is almost out, and I think this one has another studio working on it, so it's not that bad there's another one I guess.
Some people are complaining he should've waited for MN9 to release and use that money, but if you feel that, just don't back it, I guess.

Supposedly, the studio they have tapped to make Red Ash have only made otome games and visuals novels. I'm not sure why that's a big deal, but apparently people are up in arms because that means they are incapable of making action games...somehow.

I simply don't have anymore money for another Kickstarter at this point. There has been too much lately. I'm gonna sit this one out, especially since they're aiming for PC anyway (though I'm sure we'll see PS4 at the very least)

No, that was it, yeah.

What happened with Mighty No. 9? Also, does it really matter if he kicks off this one so soon, considering Mighy No. 9 is being released in a couple of months. I'm pretty sure the brunt of the work has already been done. I didn't even help kickstart Mighty No. 9 and I'll be picking it up at launch. And this one as well, if it get's funded.

Who knows, it could surprise us like Square making Einhander, or disappoint like Square making Racing Lagoon. The episodic stretch goal plan also has concerns of a potential cut-off or cliffhangers, and it's not like Legends fans aren't still salty of another dangling cliffhanger....

So is this the standard business model for aging Japanese developers now? Get Kickstarter to fund a re-hash of an already existing franchise? I mean, I understand Inafune's history with Mega Man Legends. But the Mighty No 9 Kickstarter got a shitton of money. Is there really no publisher interested in working with them this time around?
That being said, the art direction looks great.

Those were pretty much it. People seemed to make a huge fuss out of it but I didn't mind at all. I mean, it was not the first game that became open for more donations after the Kickstarter campaign ended (Shantae and Star Citizen come to mind).

It's weird to me how critical people are of Inafune for doing this given how many Western industry veterans have restarted their careers doing almost the exact same thing. Nostalgia is in, and people have been asking for a Mega Man and Legends revival for ages, so I can't say I blame him.

He did burn almost 4 million for that 3DS game King of Pirates which ended up being cancelled and then helped to make Ninja Gaiden Z. Not the most impressive track record in his post-Capcom career.

True enough, but Mighty No 9 was overfunded as hell (some of the stretch-goals were ridiculous in terms of what the wanted for them in cash), so shouldn't they be making a ton of money once that's released? Dude's got his own studio, after all.

To be fair to Tim Schafer and Brian Fargo, they did not kickstart games like "Crazy Mansion at Night of the Tentacle" and "Desert Holocaust Warriors", but former did something original and latter actually acquired the old IP to work on.

Dude's got his own studio, after all. Most triple AAA Kickstarter projects have prior funding and studios behind them, and what we consider to be overfunded, really isn't. $4 million seems like a lot, but it's chump change in game development terms, even for a basic Mega Man clone. The only thing that's really disappointed me with Might No 9 is that the game doesn't look like the gorgeous mock up they made at the start of the campaign, but that's really minor in the scheme of things. Edit:To be fair to Tim Schafer and Brian Fargo, they did not kickstart games like "Crazy Mansion at Night of the Tentacle" and "Desert Holocaust Warriors", but former did something original and latter actually acquired the old IP to work on. I suppose, but that's really splitting hairs here, given both campaigns were built upon appeals to nostalgia. I'm drawing a blank here, but I believe a few other Western game kickstarters have done pretty much what Might No 9 did. It just amuses me that people basically payed Inafune $4 million to make Mega Man, then were really shocked and surprised when he did just that. :p
