There's also the narrative justification of the "Jurassic" appellation: it highlights Hammond's cavalier attitude. I think it's even pointed out in the novel, iirc.

The premise is that the capsule containing a few games among other things was launched in 1982, so any discussion on "they could have included X or Y" (where both X and Y = characters more recent than that) is a bit moot. It doesn't rule out the possibility of references to newer games outside of the "monsters", though. Also, probably it's because I'm not American but this sort of freakout at Adam Sandler sounds... silly? I'm not too convinced about this movie so far but it's certainly not just because there's him involved.

I wouldn't call it a "freakout," but there is certainly a glut of Adam Sandler movies out there, and in a lot of cases, he's just not funny enough to warrant being the headliner. Personally, my problem with him is that he's almost always playing "That Guy." You know how people will sometimes say, "don't be that guy"? He's that guy.

You should only worry when Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison, is involved. And they are.
They're practically a scam group that make movies as advertisements for whatever companies are interested, and the cast get a nice vacation out of it, a lot of money gets passed around, and there's no real effort from anyone. Jack & Jill was literally just an excuse for a vacation, and the most blatant example to date.

When Fury Road opened we saw the trailer for this. It was hilarious because people were excited about it and then there was an audible collective sigh as Adam Sandler's name was mentioned. Not a fan myself, mostly because he showed in Punch Drunk Love that he can actually be good but just doesn't care. Can't say I hold it against him though, I'd do the exact same thing if that's where my life ended up.
Jack and Jill is an abomination but it at least gave us this:

Exactly, it really bothers me that OF COURSE if Hollywood made a movie like this it would only feature the characters literally everyone and their grandmother has heard of and nothing else (I mean Pac Man was recently referenced in a Budweiser commercial for fuck's sake).

Given the target demographic for pixels seems to be older men and dads in their 30 and 40s, it kinda makes sense to stick with iconic videogame characters like Donkey Kong and Pac-man.

Although the movies from that company are almost universally awful, the worst of the worst is whenever Sandler is writing. Here's a good article that touches on both points of view. What bothers me the most about his movies is a toss-up between the narcissism and the cruelty/bully mentality, with the bullshit "feels" portions of each movie a close third. Anyway, not gonna waste time on Pixels, it's going to turn out exactly the same as the rest of his films after the first three.

I'm now convinced that Sandler is comedy's Michael Bay. Which is to say, a lot of corporate whoring, and a deep, deep divide between critics (and his haters) and his fans. Perhaps I'm cruel, but I LOLed at "his failed SNL friends" on the list of reliable tropes in Sandler's flicks in a video review linked to in that article. Still, I have to say that I've always kind of liked Kevin James, and I dearly wish that he could get out from under the yoke of Sandler.

No, Micheal Bay is a genuine artist. His problem is his sense of comedy is awful, and his intricate directing style is puke inducing to audiences.
Sandler has really stopped caring much about making films, now it's only really an excuse to get some extra cash or vacation time, or just to get his friends paychecks. The annoying thing is that he's a very talented actor (he was fantastic in Spanglish, despite how messy that film was), he just doesn't care enough to really pursue this.

I guess if he doesn't have a moral issue with doing what he does, good for him - but he doesn't lose money on account of those practices, which is why Sony couldn't get rid of him, but were bitching in those leaked emails about him.

It's pretty sad when Happy Gilmore is the high water mark in your career.
